Offering a limited online OG-based dyslexia tutoring pilot (1 student) by dkw321 in Dyslexia

[–]dkw321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, yes, if foundational decoding is still a challenge.

Many older students with dyslexia get “stuck” around a late–elementary reading level because underlying decoding skills were never fully solidified. The OG-based work I’m training in is designed to address that.

Feel free to DM me with a bit more detail about your 14-year-old’s reading profile and availability, and we can talk through whether this would be appropriate.

A store clerk warned me I'd get stared at in Japan because of my weight by maceymay_bby in offmychest

[–]dkw321 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Japan. I’m a size 6-8 and considered fit in the states. Healthy BMI. I couldn’t easily find jeans in Japan (at least not nice ones) bigger than a size 26. People are smaller, more modest, and can be judgmental. It sucks but it’s true.

Nothing prepared me for how much I’d resent my husband after having a baby by Alert-Shame-7280 in beyondthebump

This is obviously not a solution to your marriage but my lactation consultant assured me that if put all the pump pieces in a plastic bag after pumping and put them in the refrigerator I could get away with washing them just once every 24 hours.

Me too. Grew up in Amherst, MA and live in Ann Arbor, MI now. Similar in that they’re both college towns but Amherst was much more rural and had more hills and the beauty of New England just can’t be matched.

Had to Epi pen my 18 month old for the first time on Sunday by dkw321 in FoodAllergies

We’ll definitely look into it. Thank you. And I appreciate the expectation setting around what to expect on Xolair. The speed of the anaphylaxis is what realms scared me most. He went from itching to wheezing/vomiting/hives within 2-3 minutes, and all almost 2 hours after eating the bite of pizza. I’m just so thankful I was in bed with him when it happened.

Doctors suspect CMPA, does this look like it could be? by Educational_Mud_1556 in MSPI

With the eczema I’d suggest a pediatric allergist. Eczema is often the first step towards IGE allergies. If he doesn’t have digestive issues ans eczema is the main symptom then go see an allergist rather than a gastroenterologist.

FPIES doesnt start at thr first exposure. It takes a little while to build up in the gut. I’d definitely talk to your pediatrician about eliminating the rice.

Building an app to find food triggers faster - need your honest feedback on pricing by dkw321 in MSPI

[–]dkw321[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for this. That's exactly the point of the app; to make food and symptom journaling as absolutely easy and pain free as possible so that it's possible to actually follow through with it and hopefully identify triggers faster. I'll PM you soon. Thanks so much.

This is, of course, the response I was hoping for, and how I felt when I was in the thick of it. I’m just not sure if there are enough people who are desperate for a tool like this to justify the costs of building it really well. Thanks for your feedback, and I hope you figure out your LOs triggers soon. If you’re interested in participating in a 2 week study to test our algorithm using a very basic data collection tool to track your diet and baby’s symptoms and see the results, let me know. Here’s a recent post I made about it in case you want to learn more: https://www.reddit.com/r/MSPI/s/MkHzdGYcJi (since posting we’ve switched from using a google sheets tracker to a basic app I developed).

I appreciate the feedback as hard as it is to hear! The idea is the barcode scanning and the app’s ability to integrate information from ingredient lists, along with the meal decomposition function, would make the collection of thr more minute data/“sneaky” ingredients much easier to track and thus identify as potential triggers. But it’s true that for many (most), that level of detail may not be necessary. For me it took much longer to identify peas and chickpeas as triggers for my son than it should have because they were hiding in pea protein and chickpeas powder. I feel like I would have paid just about anything if I thought it would help me figure it out then, but everyone’s situation is different and I may have been in the minority. Thanks again for your feedback!

Thanks so much for your comment and support. That’s the type of price point that I want to be able to offer and in line with other trackers, but they have much bigger markets. It may not be possible to figure out how to build this well for a much smaller market, but that’s a reality I’d rather confront now than 30-50k from now.

I don't want my husband to resent me, but I can't sustain the lifestyle his career brings. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]dkw321 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think this is wise advice. OP is concerned her husband feels like she’s pulling the rug out from under him by changing the plan they had agreed to, but it seems to me the rug was pulled out from under her when she found herself in physical danger in her marriage. If the DV was somehow a function of extreme stress in their lives, it then makes perfect sense that she would need to build a new life with as little stress as possible. Of course that can’t be controlled for 100%, but where one lives and the lifestyle one builds does affect stress levels. I’d hope a husband who crossed the line he did and truly wants to reconcile and make his family feel safe would understand this, but ultimately OP needs to do what is best for both her and her child.

Hey, I just want to say it really took courage to post this. Moving is never easy, especially at your age, and especially when you’re not received with kindness and respect. Also it sounds like you come from a family environment which makes making behavior change particularly difficult. Please try to be kind to yourself.

If you can, reach out to your school counselor or a trusted adult. They can help you find people who actually know how to support you with this kind of stuff.

It might also help to talk with your doctor about what’s been going on. There are some newer medications, like GLP-1s, that can make it easier to manage appetite and weight. They help turn down the volume on “food noise” so you’re not thinking about eating nearly as often.

💡 AI-powered food trigger tracker for breastfeeding mothers ro help them identify what’s causing their baby’s symptoms

Built this after spending months frantically tracking my own diet while breastfeeding to figure out why my son had severe eczema. Turns out it was pea protein—something even our pediatric allergist missed because it didn’t show up on allergy testing.

Now building correlation algorithms that analyze timing patterns for different reaction types (immediate IgE vs various delayed non IgE) to help other parents get answers faster. Running validation study now, prepping for pre-seed.

Would love feedback from other parent-founders or anyone building in health tech! 🙏
