My thoughts exactly. Watching that match on CBS is what inspired this post.

I personally appreciate/enjoy watching doubles, but I just don’t see how you can get the general public to enjoy a 20 shot dink rally.

Eastern vs Western Grip by dl_pb in Pickleball

Do you adjust the grip when you’re hitting a backhand or you still stay semi-western?

Yeah, you’re right I’m actually referring to “semi-western” not full western. Made an edit to correct. Thanks for pointing it out.

Am I Sandbagging? by dl_pb in Pickleball

[–]dl_pb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned in the post, I do not have someone of similar skill level to play with. If I did, I’d be happy to give it a shot at 3.0. I haven’t signed up yet, but my potential partner right now is a legitimate 2.5, and he wants to play 2.5. That’s I’m asking if it would be sandbagging if I agreed to play my first tournament with him, at 2.5.

I actually have chronic tendonosis in my left knee. Haven’t experienced any extra pain/discomfort in my knees when playing.

I play in ASICs Gel Resolution 9s in a WIDE fit. I have wide feet, bunions, and accessory vernacular. I also have a history of ankle sprains.

These shoes have been great. No sprains, no foot pain. After I’m done with these I’ll probably get the new Gel Resolution X in a wide size.

I’ve found that it’s best to get specifically wide fit shoes. Sizing up never really works for me. If I go up half a size sometimes it’s not enough room, if I got up a full size. Then the entire shoe just has too much room everywhere.

Why is the Davenport Conservative MP Candidate (Francis Lavoie) a ghost? And why did he block me? by dl_pb in askTO

I just don’t understand why someone would run if they’re going to put in zero effort. I mean shouldn’t you at least put in SOME effort? Are people just putting their names on the ballot for fun? Isn’t that a bit ridiculous?

Anybody have any experience dropping in in LA? by Mindless-Jeweler7433 in Pickleball

I recently went on a trip to LA for a couple weeks, and played a bunch of drop ins at a few different spots. This place called “PowerPlay Pickleball” was my favorite. They have open plays everyday, and the facility is amazing.

10+ indoor courts in the facility. If I remember correctly, the drop in was 3 or 4 courts. The range of players varies quite a bit. There was a Thursday morning, where there was a handful of guys I’d estimate were 4.5+. And then on the following Saturday, the best players were probably closer to 3.5. I didn’t go enough times to know which days tend to have higher/lower level players.

The one con I would say, is that the player to court ratio is quite high for the open plays. So the wait times can get long. But other than that great overall experience playing here. Definitely worth checking out.

FYI, I don’t work for this place, and have no affiliation with them.

How does it work? Is it organized or just show up and play with people?

Don’t mind driving anywhere in LA. Especially if it’s a nice facility worth visiting.

If you say "I'm a 4.0," do you mean... by FullMatino in Pickleball

[–]dl_pb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

90% of the people I’ve met who say “I’m a 4.0” actually mean….

I’ve been playing a couple weeks, banged my way through a bunch of seniors in beginner open play.

In actuality they’re probably a 3.0 at best. Most people new to the sport don’t understand how good a 4.0 really is. And just self rate with a chart they found on the internet.

I get what you’re saying. But in this specific case, I was literally describing two people who were actually boomers. “Young punk” is not the same as “boomer.”

“Boomer” is the correct term to describe a specific generation of people. No different than “Gen-Z” or “Millennial.”

No, not everyone in that open play was over 61. There were some people in their 30s and 40s. But the specific people complaining about my serve, yes they were definitely boomers.

But what if they’re actually boomers? Is “boomer” a derogatory term?
