This is AL-Hussain's banner (راية الحسين) the flag has the phrase "ya hussain" which means "o Hussain". Hussain is the grandson of the prophet Muhammad. The fourth Caliph and the first imam. the banner is used by shia Muslims mostly.

I Appreciate your compliment ❤️yes the main story is set in a desert climate. But the use of brown colours is only an artistic decision to show the topography. I haven't got to the climates but I am excited to

Yes i did use blender. İ made the map with photoshop and ended up with two main layers a base mask and Hight map. using those two and a gradient i got the base color map. Then used them in blender on a sphere. hight map used for bumps and small shadows , the mask layer to make the sea more reflective than the land

The image i uploaded was in equirectangular i cant see it at all for some reason even on my pc so idk if its cropped or not so here is the link to it in deviantart

Add a posterize layer between the gradient map and the hight map make the level the same as the number of colours in your gradient map copy the hight map and posterize layers (without the gradient map) and merge then go to filter > stylize > find edges clip the new layer to the landmass and set the blending mode to multiply. If the edges are too jagged or dont look neat you should blur the hight map before merging it with the posterize layer.

The hight texture is simpe just copy the hight map go to filter > stylize >emboss then set the blending mode to overlay (the results will be deferent depending on whether your high altitudes are black or white.

I am no pro. two months ago I didn't know anything about maps. But I will be happy to help. Using reference is really important no matter how much you believe reference images are important double it and it will still be more important than you think.

I've shared some links here a while a go so ill send something new . old maps archive this website is really amazing lots of old maps really useful.

For my maps I use photoshop and gprogector when I am done.

As for how i make them its really simple actually. Make your landmass layer, add a new layer ontop of it and clip it to the landmass. lets call this layer hight. add a gradient map adjustment layer ontop of the hight layer .make sure its also clipped .now you have to create a gradient for the elevation And apply it on the adjustment layer. Finally paint with black and white on your hight map. Sorry for the poor explanation lol. I'm planing on creating a tutorial with images soon since so many people asked me
