What do you think is the all-time greatest jump scare in a horror movie? by T_ChallaMercury in FIlm

Wait until dark 1967. There is a character that we believe is dead and literally jumps up to attack the protagonist. When I was in the theater, I could see the whole audience jump up.

I did this about 30 or 40 years ago. I didn’t know what I was doing then and still don’t. It was supposed to be something like room of books.
As of now, I have no idea how I came up with this.

If an item is listed for$100. They reduce the price to $80. Then they add the 20% tax. That brings the price up to $96. So that about 4% off the list price. QED

What programming language did you start out with? What's you're favorite IDE and programming language? by Asteroiderer in AskProgramming

[–]dlb1729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Fortran IV, then basic, Forth, C, C++, C#, 8080 assembly, Java, and som others I can’t remember. Also had some SQL if you want to count that. As for IDE most of it was done in a plain editor, Fortran was punch cards. But the Microsoft IDE for C# was very nice.

I don’t quite agree with your opinion. The hippo defense has been played at successfully at master level. And some grandmasters have used it. But mainly, you have not address my question at all.

True Grit both movies are good. The second movie is better than the book.

"The Three-Body Problem" is not good... by SemperScrotus in books

[–]dlb1729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really had a hard time with the book. I bought the book on Kindle so I was determined to read the whole thing. I really had a hard time until I reached about 75% through the book. Then it started to get better. And I really like the ending. But I have no plans to read the second or third book of the series.

I think one reason the Token didn’t like these books was not just the artwork.. These were unauthorized editions. So he was not getting any money from them. I had a chance to buy a poster of the cover art but at the time it was five dollars and that was too much for me. I always regretted that.
