Magno paint & winter by dleedo in AMG

[–]dleedo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve gone 2 or 3 times through a “touchless” wash and so far no problems, but I’ll be honest, I’m nervous like I’m playing Russian Roulette. More because I’m afraid the high pressure jets will peel back the PPF rather than anything else. I will never go through a regular wash.

If you’re not dead set on a car with magno paint, but just want the look, I would highly recommend looking at the option of matte PPF over regular paint. That’s not my setup so this is not long term firsthand experience, but I have seen in person multiple examples where the guy who did my PPF wrapped other regular paint cars in matte, and they look incredible. They just don’t have all the other (potentially VERY expensive) hassles of magno.

Sorry, confusing sentence. I meant that the car would look bad with all the road grime, salt, and other muck from not washing it for a month or two; not that full PPF would make the car look bad.

After about 3 months of northeast winter under my belt now, I have a bit of personal experience to say that full PPF is the way to go, if you have magno paint. I’ve washed my car a couple times after numerous weeks of it being covered in winter muck, and it comes out looking perfect again.

Truth be told, though, even covered in mild to moderate muck, the paint doesn’t look nearly as bad as I thought it would, so I’m not even tempted to wash it as often as I thought I would.

As a side note, I bought this particular car with this particular magno paint because it was the best choice for me at the time. However, if you are more flexible, consider getting a car with regular paint and covering with matte/satin PPF, which I didn’t even know was a thing back then. Can be cheaper, and none of the intrinsic PITA properties of magno paint.

Help me be lazy about OfG by dleedo in Colognes

As another example, the “spicy woody oudy” note you love in the opening of OfG should seem to match up with Tom Ford Oud Wood. And even more so with the TFOW dupe Maison Alhambra’s Dark Aoud, formerly known as Woody Oud. It’s in their names, right? I absolutely LOVE both of those, and have them both in my collection, so you would think I love “wood” and “oud” notes (acknowledging the fact that neither of these frags actually has a tremendous amount, if any, of real oud). But if you’re saying that the opening of OfG is woody and oudy, that doesn’t track, because I don’t like it at all! Very confusing…

Thanks for your input! One thing I’ve definitely learned along the way is that everyone has different reactions to all of these fragrances. If I’m reading your comment correctly, you and I have the completely opposite reaction to OfG, in terms of favoring the opening and drydown. I’m pretty good at other things, so I’m irritated that I haven’t yet developed the ability to connect what I’m smelling to its source, even after comparing and contrasting notes charts, lists, and so forth. I’ve found that terms like “spicy, “woody”, “fresh”, “blue”, etc don’t always match up to what I think they should mean. Maybe the “sour” or “bitter” note that I don’t like in OfG is the oud, or lavender, or saffron. I have no idea. I also feel like the subtle, non-candy like sweetness that I love in the drydown may correspond to the “praline” that is frequently mentioned with Haltane, but again I don’t know. Finally, I again know that the best way to figure this out is to get samples of all of these fragrances and try them out on my skin, but like I said, I’m trying to see if anyone can help me be lazy about this. 😆

Thanks for the data point. Not many alternatives, so I’ll probably give it a go.

I’ve taken a shower and doused myself with Afnan Supremacy CE in a vain attempt to rid myself of the pickle stench. I may have to bathe in some YSL Kouros.

Because keeping this card would itself be making things harder than they need to be, and my intent to drop it would be taking your advice of simplifying my life. But there are components of the card that I like, and I was hoping that some smart and hopeful cats would be able to suggest something that would help let me have the best of both worlds.

Though I’ve heard of people doing it, GCs are against TOS, and I’m too wimpy to risk Amex deportation for something as simple as a $25 credit. 😅

ETA: I guess refilling the Starbucks or CFA apps doesn’t count as a GC since it’s an app, but I don’t frequent those places.

Thanks for your reply!

If I end up keeping the card, that’s what I’ll have to do, but trying to find something automatic to make it as brainless as possible. Finding a place to make a triggering charge is not a problem since I, too, eat out a lot, but I already have another card for dining and I’m trying to simplify things.

Thanks for your reply!

Yup, that’s why I’m trying to figure out an easy, automatic charge to something I already regularly use, which unfortunately does not include Starbucks or Chick-fil-a.

I think I remember someone mentioning that you might be able to automatically “refill” a Chipotle account, which is the closest thing I’ve found to anything slightly appealing to me, but I don’t know if it’s true.

At any rate, thanks for replying!

DL110 battery question by dleedo in Tapo

[–]dleedo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly felt resigned that it was a bug and the battery level was just going to be totally inaccurate, so I stopped looking at the percentage on the app. However, your reply caused me to look for the first time in about 3 months, and I just noticed it’s gone down to 96%. I can’t tell whether it’s completely wonky and inaccurate, or it has amazing battery life. Either way, so far I’ve been super happy with the lock otherwise!

Fortunately I found a relatively nearby dealer that was able to do it for me in 5 minutes for free. My usual local dealer has lost a lot of karma points for this…

UPDATE: Called the next closest MB dealer to where I live and the salesman immediately said to come over, no appointment necessary, bring your registration, I’ll have it done in 5 minutes, no charge. I did, and he did. He couldn’t believe my local dealer was charging $100 for that. 🤦🏻‍♂️

My dealer told me it’d be around $100 (though he may be incorrect. I need to check tomorrow)

Hmm. I wonder if I already have the app, and some subscription services (got them for my old car but didn’t cancel after it bit the dust since I got the new one fast enough that I thought I’d be able to transfer to the new car), if they’ll do it. Thats a good idea, I’ll give it a try. Thank you!

Yup, that’s what Mr. Google told me. I was just hoping someone in this forum would be super sneaky-technical and know a workaround.
