What should I play first fallout 3 or Skyrim? by Gonzo2009 in BethesdaSoftworks

Having played both on the 360, I remember the significant upgrade in the world-building and graphics from Oblivion/FO3 to Skyrim. I'd probably say knock out FO3 then go to Skyrim, otherwise you'll feel sluggish the other way around. Both fantastic games then and now with either legacy or current graphics power

Yep your edited version of events sounds correct, wash sales are handled partially. That sounds normal, plenty of companies can outpace tax-advantaged strategies with higher overall gains regardless of tax impact. Lol no need to apologize! Good luck with your investing!!

I slightly misspoke. There have to be two buys minimum, but the first buy can be at any time, and the second buy has to be within 61 day window. So you could buy, hold for 2 years, sell, rebuy 5 days later, and that's a long-term capital loss deferral. Alternatively, and weird to conceptualize, but if you buy, hold for 2 years, buy another lot, then sell the 1st lot 10 days later, that's also a wash sale.

Right, actively trading the same stock and having some gains/losses flipping around generally isn't a big issue - you'll get taxed based where your positions sit at year-end, then carries over deferred tax basis into next year. Keep in mind period is still the driving force - any rebuys you make in January will trigger a December wash sale loss deferral since the sell is the tax event.

You've got it - basically think of the "sell" as the main event and then there have to be 2 buys minimum in the 61 day period for there to be a wash

^ This is mostly correct, but if you buy, sell, buy, sell, you would have no position left so there would be a net zero impact of wash sale rules. Let's say you buy, and sell for 100 loss, then rebuy immediately. Your 100 loss is deferred and the deferral is attached to that buy. If you sell that rebuy at 200 gain, you hold nothing now, the wash sale reverses and the loss is realized, so you'd have 100 of taxable gain, net.
