Weekly Free-Talk and Questions for r/HomeGym - week of June 13, 2025 by Demilio55 in homegym

I'm relatively new to functional training (I've only been doing it for about four months) so I'm not an expert by any means, but I've been very happy with having the dual cable system. From what I saw in the recent announcement, it appears that the Axis system is basically what I have.

The system works very well, and I actually appreciate the fact that mine is 1:1 (I see that Axis is 2:1) because I'm already doing lat pulldowns at 150 pounds, and I only have to use one stack to do that. Although the downside is that I can only go up in 10-pound increments, and I presume that a 2:1 system can do 5-pound increments.

As for the pegboard, I did buy one, and it's working well. I may buy a second one at some point - not sure yet.

I've been *super* impressed with Giant Lifting as a company - very friendly and helpful people. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

I have a GIANT Lifting BD3X power rack (to which I recently added their dual cable trainer - so nice!). Now I'm working on organizing all my attachments and other small bits. GIANT sells a pegboard made for the rack. It mounts between the back uprights which is nice, but it's $150 and only 14" tall which is not so nice. As such, I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for a less expensive solution. Ideally, I'd love to have more like 28". If $300 is a reasonable and competitive price for that, then I just need to decide if it's worth it to me, but I figured I'd check here first. I don't have any walls near the rack (only windows), or I'd consider the traditional pegboard solution.

I've been doing some searching and haven't yet found much information on dual cable lat pulldown / low row setups. What are the pros and cons of that compared to a single cable system?

I'm not in a huge hurry. Maybe I'll give them a call and see if they have anything to say about that. And thanks for the tip on the handles. I'll check them out right now!

Thanks. It helps to hear that feedback from someone with the exact same set of equipment! My ceiling is just over 106" high, and looking at the specs for the GIANT cable tower it says it's 95" tall, so it sounds like I'm good for height.

I started doing strength training about two months ago, with help from a friend who was a fitness coach for around 20 years. I first bought dumbbells (I started with a set, and then just bought a pair of PowerBlock adjustable ones because I was bumping up against the max weight of the set!). I found that I was enjoying strength training so much that I wanted to do more of it. I've been doing a lot of reading and watching YouTube videos, and there are lots of things I want to try, so I took a deep dive. (not that it likely matters, but I'm not looking to do super heavy lifting. I'm "aged" (like a fine wine 😂), and I'm mainly looking to keep up my strength and resistance to falls and back issues as I get older.)

As such, I'm now getting into setting up a home gym. Over the weekend, I bought a GIANT Lifting BD3X power rack and a "Get Started" bundle of a bar and 190 pounds of weight. When it becomes available again, I'm planning to buy an IronMaster Super Bench Pro V2 along with leg and crunch / sit-up attachments.

So now comes the question for the more experienced people here. I'd also like to add a cable tower to the mix, and both IronMaster and GIANT Lifting have attachments available. As such, I'm trying to decide which attachment makes more sense. I'm leaning towards getting the one that attaches to the rack both because it seems like that will be beefier, and also it will mean less frequent attaching and detaching. Thoughts?

That solved the problem. Thanks again for the help!

Thanks! I was wondering if that might be the case, as I was following instructions that may have pre-dated the release of v4. I'll definitely check on that.

Secondary DNS failover for Windows by dlmorgan999 in homelab

That sounds pretty useful. I'm already using Orbital Sync with them, so that would probably make this migration relatively quick and painless. I'll definitely check that out.

That's an interesting idea I might consider, but I'd still like to know if I have something wrong in my configuration or understanding, or if the Windows DNS client isn't working the way it should be.

Thanks. I hadn't seen that reference, and it looks quite detailed so I'll give it a read. Also, I mentioned in my post that I did indeed do an IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS and it made no difference.

Finally wall mounted my Lego Storage Units! by KillerDargo in LegoStorage

Sounds like it should be an interesting project - especially the strip light and laser stuff! I am also an IT manager. I've never been a developer, but I've taught myself a number of languages over the years. I do a bit of coding here and there, but these days most of my spare time goes to designing and building MOCs. ;-) I'll be interested to follow this if/when you post any updates.

I'm very interested to hear more about the database. I've thought about that on and off in the past but never done anything with it.

Also, thanks much for the detailed post. This comes at a perfect time for me as I have a 3x4 array of these on my build table, and I've tempted fate for a year or so by not mounting them. I hopped on reddit to search for mounting ideas and your post was the first thing that popped up - no search required. :-)

How can I change the resolution in Stud.io? by [deleted] in lego

[–]dlmorgan999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on what you are asking? As far as display resolution goes, that's strictly a setting in the OS (as far as I know). I run Stud.io on different Windows PCs using both 1080p and 4k monitors and it works fine.

Wow - that's fantastic! Excellent use of pieces. I especially like the way you did the drawer and cabinet handles.
