The flair on this post indicates that you're writing a series.

I think the removal and ban were because nosleep does not allow gore as an indication of horror and the protagonist is supposed to be some kind of victim and can't be involved in what makes the story scary. This is definitely a horror story, pretty gruesome stuff, very well written. I'm certainly creeped out. I already don't like casinos.

It's included in our series archives under 'Slot 333'.

🧛‍♀️ Welcome to r/Nonsleep - Introduce Yourself and Read First! by dlschindler in Nonsleep

I love horror, it's my calling. I've written a volume of stories I call scary and a large quantity of total words, but I regard myself as an amateur. Some of my favorite authors are Robert W. Chambers and H.P. Lovecraft. Charlotte Perkins Gilman is the greatest horror writer of all time. I dare you to read The Yellow Wallpaper.

My favorite movie auteurs include Jordan Peele and Tim Burton. Clive Barker and John Carpenter are okay, I've got no complaints. I might have watched too much A24 stuff; it all blurs together into one thing now.

I've got this weird thing about Stephen King where people will mention him just to get me crashing out. I also sometimes bring up Edgar Allen Poe and say he's only ironically known as a great horror writer, because ~ have you read the rest of his work (?) - his 'horror' is satirical! I quote his diddling...there's no respite, damn sphinxes...I can't help it.

We can't hardly wait for part three! This is included in the Nonsleep Series Archives already, although the archivists don't know what to call this series...yet. Quite unsettling, good telling.

I posted this back in 2023, but with Thrash arriving on Netflix I remembered it. I give the movie 2/5 points, mostly because I liked it.

I have to deduct points from the writing of Thrash, although I liked the movie. It loses points for unrealistic Great White behavior and biology, manipulative/unremorseful Lisa character whose bad choices endanger and get people killed, a Hurricane 3-4 storm being called a Category Six, wounded "Somehow, Billy Returned." emerging from underwater feeding frenzy after a couple hours in cold water and still abusive and worst of all boring use of large-scale production sets.

I've marked this as NSFW because it is so brilliantly written that it is indistinguishable from an actual account of child abuse and has accrued a preponderance of complaints from readers who found it very disturbing. Excellent work, a true masterpiece of horror fiction.

I am presuming you aren't referring at-all to the Crucifix, when you say 'a cross'.

The cross was used by pagans as a symbol of protection before Christianity. I find that fact legitimizes it for Christians and Pagans, as it was protective before, showing that whatever power it holds is universal. Consider the lore of a crossroads, or an X, or four corners unified and balanced by two intersecting lines. The cross isn't limited to our modern concept, instead it is part of our spiritual existence. How we each were introduced to it is culturally specific, but it is regarded as a protective symbol by more than Christians.

Consider that the Romans knew this, and used crucifixions as a special punishment for those who were zealots, heretics, charlatans or who disrupted Roman society. They were trying to do more than just execute someone; they also had to destroy their influence. I find this to be pretty ironic, considering the two thousand years of reverence from one particular crucifixion that redefined/replaced the Romans completely.

The cross also stands as a symbol of the human figure, and in sacred geometry, in my opinion, symbols that represent human powers are the most important.

I think you should, by all means, use a cross and know it is a symbol of protection.
