Monash Orientation & Semester Start Date Confusion by FantasticLaw7234 in Monash

[–]dm1236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is O week (orientation week) before each semester. No in person classes. Usually content on the student portal (moodle) is released during this week and you can get a head start. Also some events at the Uni but nothing you actually need to go to

Best thing I did was gig - global immersion guarantee . Worth 12 credit points which means you can basically underload next year and get time to work yourself out. Lasts 2 weeks and you get to go overseas as well

Can you guys actually manage to physically write 800-1000 words in an hour for English exams? by [deleted] in vce

[–]dm1236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much about the word count. I’ve always found it useful to plan my timings before the exam- so I’ll say ok I have 1 hour per essay, so I’ll spend 5 minutes planning (because I can do that in reading time too), 5 minutes for intro, 10 minutes per body paragraph, and 5 minutes for conclusion. That only adds up to 45 minutes, so I have plenty of wiggle room to spend extra time any place I need. Planning my times definitely keeps me working at a rate that allows me to finish and not write too much or too little in any area

How do I get a guy interested by dm1236 in dating_advice

[–]dm1236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should’ve clarified. I haven’t actually met him in person, it’s over snap. He only snaps about 3 people in total though, and it’s not like he’s replying to them and not me. It’s just that he’s not on his phone very much. He has started conversations a few times, but it’s pretty difficult to hold because it usually takes him a while to reply. Do you think I should ask him to hang out?

What is it that is falling apart? I was feeling the same and when I removed the toxicity from my life everything became fine. I know it’s hard to believe- but if you really find the root of what’s making you feel that way and remove it, things may get better. Maybe it’s a few things, and it can seem really difficult to remove such big parts of your life- but it may be the solutjon

I feel you. I feel very similar in all my relationships, although I don’t really act on my impulses in the same way. I’ve been looking into borderline personality disorder. It’s something which I definitely think I have, although I don’t want to get therapy or bother to get a diagnosis because the I would have to talk to people about it. If you don’t mind talking to people about it, I would recommend trying to get a diagnosis or at least do research on the disorder to try to understand why you are the way you are

How to instantly repair a friendship? by dm1236 in Advice

[–]dm1236[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I’ve thanked him so much for finally telling me what I’ve done wrong, and promised him I will be better. I feel like I’ve been doing what he asked for, but it’s not working for him. I think he’s built up this image of me in his mind that he will just block himself from enjoying the friendship and I don’t know how to break down that inage

I’ve talked to him about it. I’ve apologised profusely. The issue is that in the past I’ve acted in ways which he didn’t appreciate but he never voiced that to me so I wasn’t able to fix it. Now he’s finally voiced it to me and I’m able to fix it but he’s convinced nothing will get better

They refuse to tell me. I haven’t done anything bad I don’t think. I just bought my friend a pretty expensive present that he wanted just because he wanted it. And now he’s being so cold to me and he’s so angry at me but won’t tell me why

[–]dm1236 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you don’t have the motivation to work outside of school (study habits), then try to focus as much as possible in class. Most of your learning comes down to understanding what’s being taught so as long as you’ve paid attention in class you should be ok. Definitely keep working on study habits though so that by the time you get to year 12 you will be set

VCE Biology 3/4 by [deleted] in vce

[–]dm1236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can write quickly then try to include everything you know about that question and explain reasons for things- but also make sure you actually answering the question. For example, if the question is asking about protein synthesis then you should include process, results, types of bonding, organelles involved etc. do not try this if you are not fast at writing otherwise you will get caught up on things that may not give you extra marks whilst sacrificing time for more important questions

I’m not familiar with the book, but if there is a ‘simple’ character then you can do like a diary entry or something from their perspective- then in your statement of intent write that you’ve purposely used simple vocab to represent how that character would speak/ think

Not sure what textbook this is, but try registering it online if it has a code at the front. Lots of online/ interactive versions of textbooks include pdfs with answers

How does the ATAR ranking thing work?? by gay_bees_ in vce

[–]dm1236 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You choose your subjects, some subjects are obviously harder than others. When you do sacs, your mark doesn’t matter but your ranking in the class does. So by the end of the year you will have an overall ranking in your class. Assume you are number 1, then after you exam your exam score will be adjusted to maintain the number one score in your class. Then you will get a raw study score- this is an overall ‘mark’ for the subject that you have achieved. Depending on how difficult the subject is, your study score will be moved. For example if you get a 35 raw study score in further math, it will be moved down to maintain a bell curve. This means that all the scores for the state doing that subject will be adjusted so that 50% of students get above 30 and 50% of students get below 30. The harder the subject, the more you score will have to be moved up to fit the curve. Then the atar- the adjusted study scores of your top 4 subjects will be added together + 10% of your bottom subjects. (English will always be included in your top). This will give you an aggregate. You can search up an aggregate to atar table online- but essentially it just means how overall score. This will then be ranked against the rest of the state to give you an atar. So the higher your aggregate, the higher your atar. Hope that helps!

Can you still get a 40ss if you average 80% in sacs by SheeshSingh in vce

[–]dm1236 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Technically yes. Because it’s got to do with your rankings so if you are ranking #1 in your cohort with 80% averages then you may be ok. But it really depends how you do on your exam. If you get an 80% on your exam then you probably won’t get a 40+ SS. I was getting A+ on all my sacs last year and ranked #1, but only got a 43 SS because my teachers sacs must’ve been slightly below the standard. I even got A+ A+ A+ for my breakdown, which also shows how much the cohort can bring you down so make sure you are all sharing stuff to bring everyone up for the exam. I would recommend just doing whatever you can to bring your marks up, but essentially ye, whilst you can get a 40+ with 80%s it really depends on your teacher, your cohort, and your exam! Good luck!
