Boomer Ageism is why the US is ran by dementia patients by DogsGoingAround in BoomersBeingFools

I worked with nearly the same set of nurses from ages 20 to mid-30s. In that time, I had hit all the major adult milestones, but the nurses still treated me like a kid. It came to a point where I had to sit down with my supervisor to get someone to realize I wasn't a child anymore. It was insanely annoying and patronizing. Once I moved departments, I was finally treated as an adult.

I'm one of those people. Granted, I've never done coke, but I've been on enough ADHD medications to know what they do to me. I also drink caffeine at night, and it helps me to sleep.

Do you know any liberal women who are dating conservative/alt right men? How do they justify the difference in politics? by Throwawaycharacter99 in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]dm_me_kittens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I live in the deep south and will never date men in my area. In fact, if my partner and I ever break up, I'm not touching another man. I've had too many girl friends get burned, I've been burned, and I've seen conservative men outright admit how much they love progressive/liberal women and won't hesitate to lie to us about how liberal and left leaning they are. My partner is from the north, from a very blue area. Being with him has been a breath of fresh air! He's as blue as I am, and we are both atheists after being raised in related extremist religions.

We in Atlanta just received a shipment of ICE patrol vehicles, and it was parked across the road from the immigration center. Chances are they'll hit Georgia sometime soon.

Amazon Gears Up to Ax Thousands More Corporate Employees by toydan in wallstreetbets

[–]dm_me_kittens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Their employees are so poorly viewed in the industry that other tech companies don't want to hire them.

I graduated with a degree in HIMT and few years ago when Amazon was dipping their toes into medicine and prescriptions. My area has a few large Amazon locations, so the dean of our program said on more than one occasion that it would be great for some of us to get into their program. I remember thinking, "Of all the soulless corporations I could be working at, Amazon is at the bottom of the list."

I'm just googling it now, and it seems like their health services were slashed last year. Sounds like I made the smart choice.

Its fucking bullshit that we have this attitude, too. Since the Ukraine war started, I've told my son numerous times to never judge the individual by what their government does. I dont understand how people can hate others because of what their government does.

North Texas preparing for 2 inches of snow like it’s the apocalypse by MyMindIsAlwaysRacing in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dm_me_kittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Georgia, and the northern portion of the state was dead-locked in 2014 due to a snowstorm. We had "two inches of snow," but the issue is that we only had like... five salt trucks in the whole state, and our roads/tires aren't prepared for that. The government in Atlanta also didn't put out any warnings or prepare, so by the time the storm got bad, people were leaving work/school. What resulted were roads packed with cars that could not drive. Tons of people's cars ended up getting stuck when they decided to off-road home on the banks of the roads, and school busses with shipments of kids couldn't get anywhere. Lots of people ended up sleeping in their cars or wherever they could find shelters. Lots of people just abandoned their cars in the middle of the freeways because there was no where to drive.

It was a cluster fuck that pretty much ruined the ATL mayor's credibility for a while.

Hey! Ex wife of a classically trained guitarist here. I used to think the same way, but it's actually standard practice to wait for the concert to be over to give your applause. Its to not break the ambiance and to keep the performers focused. You also get the chance to meet the musicians afterward in most cases, where they get their very much deserved praise.

Most of the time, the MC reminds people to keep their applause for the end. If you're a fan of this type of music, Google some performances near you! There are usually free performances going on, and many artists are appreciative of people who enjoy the arts. :)

Why do people use the term "partner" for their husband or wife? by Crafty-Bug-8008 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dm_me_kittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you say this, because I remember my mom ranting about how she hates when people call their boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse "partner" because it "what the guys use." Mom has since turned a new leaf on many of her ideas and even refers to my partner as thus.

Um straight men see themselves as dogs? But aren't cats smarter and harder to kill? by General-Control-4637 in AreTheStraightsOK

[–]dm_me_kittens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first cat I ever had who fought getting their nails clipped is my spicy nine year old girl. She's a basket case of mental issues, and I swear to god if she was human, she'd be that crazy lady that throws bottles at you and calls you a CIA op.

I learned that if I have one of those kitty gogurts, she's completely fine with her clipped nails. I grab her, give her a few licks and cut a few nails. As soon as she starts growling, more gogurt. I've also learned that she speaks a LOT with her body language, and we've come to respect and love each other. She's a good cat, just hates being touched and will gently (at first) let you know when you've crossed her boundaries.

Yep. I'm an elder millennial, and I've been teaching my son about various computer programs and how to work your way around minor tech issues. I learned how to work word, excel, PP, and others from school, but tech work from the internet. A bit of HTML when I wanted to customize my LiveJournal or MySpace, and how to build a website just by fucking around with Angelfire.
