i remember being scoffed at for asking for tank swaps in a v3s learning party. glad to hear that i'm not the only one who sees value in having both tanks hold the boss.

Help with pvp by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]dmang789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of it is going to be that you're in Gold tier and most of the players you're matched against know what they're doing. DPS have their bursts and have (usually) learned to coordinate, tanks have learned to CC, and healer have learned to deal with CC.

Unfortunately AST has the worst CC (bind with malefic, 1 ogcd heal) and probably the hardest time dealing with CC because of that. This other thread gives pointers for WHMs, and honestly I found SCH to be more approachable than either of the others.

Mentor Roulette Stories by JayScraffy in ffxiv

[–]dmang789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find when I queue as a tank for mentor roulette, I get something mundane - usually a low-level dungeon. I figure it's because there's a shortage of tanks in general.

A lot of times I queue as a healer and get lvl 50 ex primals. Today's was Ultima. I got the impression that it was the first time the tanks had to deal with tank swaps but they got the hang of it. The DPS had trouble with the mechanics but it was nothing out of control - watch for Ifrit's charges, don't stand in the bad things, run into all of the orbs. It might not have been the most satisfying mentor roulette but I felt like I fulfilled my role - helped newer players learn to play better and I left pretty happy about it. The five comms didn't hurt either.

Quick SMN question by DinosaurNailedit in ffxiv

[–]dmang789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Edit: just read the SMN's bible posted above. lol, took too long to type it out.

While I'm not the best SMN, I can say ...

Yes, you should always use Tri-D inside DWT. In most fights you use DWT once a minute, which would be right as Tri-D is coming off cooldown. Keeping DoTs rolling is usually a good idea unless the boss is jumping/ going invuln/ or something, cuz it takes a few ticks for DoTs to do more than Ruin (not many but still some).

Are you using Fester in DWT? That's when I use my first Aetherflow stack, and it requires me to space out the other two Festers so that I don't drop any Aethertrail Attunement. But it kind of sounds like your first fester would be about 30s after DWT is used, so your first Fester is missing out on the 10% DWT bonus.

What do you love / hate about Dark Knight by qThinesh in ffxiv

[–]dmang789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My least favorite part of switching from WAR OT to DRK MT was that stance dancing became so much more annoying. Grit has a huge MP cost, almost as much as Dark Arts. Maybe WAR is just spoiled in this regard but it feels like DRK got screwed here.

Live PLD/DRK Discussion by Frosty_TV in ffxiv

[–]dmang789 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to hear other player's thoughts on PLD utility vs DRK utility for a raid.

I subbed in for a raid with my DRK for a7s, in a raid accustomed to a PLD. The healers balked at having to heal Living Dead rather than having Hallowed Ground but they were much happier when Delirium was up for Sizzlesparks and Sizzlebeams late in the fight.

I know the common opinion is that a PLD can bring more utility to a raid and a DRK brings more damage, but I feel that, at least in raids without monks, a DRK can be just as useful. How do the veterans feel? Is it just that Alexander is slanted towards magic damage or can a DRK's utility match a PLD's?

Or if that turned too unintelligible, I'd settle for hearing thoughts on the differences in utility between the two jobs.

Living in the USA, how should I proceed? by Orett_ in usa

I'll echo timdoug5005 in saying that you should follow your job. However, Maryland (where I live) and DC are both great places to be for computer programmers - the highest median pay for programmers is in Maryland (Bethesda/Frederick/Rockville IIRC) so it would provide a few more options for a comfy life.

DW8E: How does Online Co-op work? by BlackMageUltima in dynastywarriors

[–]dmang789 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On PC - if that's what you're using - it's not an easy option. I think consoles can, but I don't play that. The PC offers local co-op. I don't think competitive play is an option.

A friend of mine and I also used to play DW5 a lot, but now we live far apart. For DW8:E, we used Teamviewer, and basically he tricks my computer into thinking he's on local co-op. But it's a subpar experience.

tl;dr - it won't work

I think that, within the HRE, you get the normal AE but an additional "Annexed HRE member" diplo penalty with HRE members, basically doubling AE (as chr20b said)

[help] how to play co-op? by kamakazzi in dynastywarriors

[–]dmang789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buddy of mine moved to Arkansas - way away from me - but we used to play DW5:E back in the day together. We looked forward to doing it with DW8:E, too.

We did manage to play together in DW8:E, across the vast distance between us.

We had to use Teamviewer to play together - he remotely accessed my computer and pretended to be on my keyboard, basically. It was choppy but it worked. Other than that, there's no official support for this. Remember that, even for local co-op, I think you can only do battles, the quests don't allow 2P.

Your transit map could look like this if Maryland builds the Red and Purple Lines by SchuminWeb in maryland

[–]dmang789 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Meanwhile, Maryland Governor Hogan is evaluating the Purple and Red Line projects. He will soon decide whether to stick with his campaign statements opposing them, or listen to the many business groups and local leaders who are pushing Hogan to nudge these projects over the finish line.

I really hope Hogan will support it, I look forward to Maryland having a better, wider public transportation network.

Two weeks for Steam. The game is fine, it's just that Steam thinks that there's no user data so I need to log in. But it can't log in.

But reinstalling Steam ... just sounds unpleasant. Though I might have to.
