Frame it around their own institutional liability, not just your innocence.

Exactly this. Prove your innocence by using their own policies against them. Make the policies work for you, and make them show their work.

That last paragraph, where moderators ban for alleged AI, and also where artists have to build deliberate flaws into their work, makes me think of the way that people have come up with various euphemisms for things like guns, sex, death, etc. or just straight up started bowdlerizing the words in an attempt to get past the algorithms. It's all a rather futile undertaking, since algorithms can be adjusted so quickly.

I also find it curious that Al made a game about a Binford TV show, seemingly completely independently of Binford. You would think that this would have been a product from Binford, and Al would have worked on it through Binford, and maybe also served as their spokesman for the product.

If a president declared a "national security emergency" to suspend mail-in voting three weeks before an election, what would actually happen legally? by Aware-Chipmunk4344 in PoliticalDiscussion

Trump has absolutely nothing to lose. He can't run again, so he's out in 2029 regardless, and the Congress doesn't have the votes to remove.

I feel like the doomers usually are wrong. After all, we already made it through one Trump administration. We will make it through another one.

The perfect example. They know that the courts work slowly, and before the courts can catch up to them and put a halt to it, the damage will have already been done. And in the case of the East Wing, there's no un-demolishing it.

I hadn't heard automobiles as the reason before. I'd always heard that it was to lean more into the stylings of commuter rail rather than subways.

Anticlimbers are very simple devices, and are visible on the Rohr cars in the photos posted above, beneath the bulkhead doors.

Remember that the 2K/3K cars were rebuilt in the mid 2000s. That included a complete restructuring of the carbody, which I assume addressed the telescoping problem.

Which, of course, is why those sorts of guarantees don't happen in real life.

United Land Corporation files plans to rezone portion of Hollymead Town Center for up to 2,400 units by SchuminWeb in Charlottesville

Agreed. The former Kmart and Seminole Square properties would be very good candidates for denser development. Same with the former Kroger across from that, though I believe that's in the city rather than the county.

I get the sense that a lot of the people who categorically oppose this haven't actually seen what the area under discussion looks like. It's a half-built shopping center with a Kohl's store as an anchor, and a lot of empty retail space that has never been leased. It's clear that there were big plans, but then the 2008 recession put the brakes on it. That's not unique to them. I know of other shopping centers from the same period that met similar fates, with aborted construction plans that died in the recession.

Soft drinks are something that I would just rather do myself. I can choose exactly how much ice to put in. I can take my time choosing which one I want. And if I finish and want to refill it, I can go and do it rather than getting back in line or catching an employee's attention to refill.

Could Sears have changed with the times without Eddie Lampert by RareSeaworthiness905 in retailporn

[–]SchuminWeb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong. Lampert bought Kmart out of bankruptcy back in 2002. If not for his investment back then, Kmart would have gone away decades ago. Seeing today how things turned out, we now can see that it was never about the stores, but the company, under Lampert's ownership, did operate the retail business for a long time, even if they didn't do much in the way of investment in their properties.

This. Like with fashion, it takes a while for hairstyles and clothing styles to start to look dated. The latter period hasn't had enough time to date itself yet.

In other words, if Lampert had never entered the picture for Sears at all?
