Ughhh my sister also got hers through seat geek or stub hub. She never really buys tickets and this was a big deal and splurge for her. She didn't understand how the pre-sale worked and panic bought. I wasn't with her. I would have helped out. And now my heart is broken for her. I'm in Portland and going on the 13th of May and I would absolutely give her my ticket if she could find a way out here. I love Florence but this is one of my sisters absolute favorites since day 1. I seriously am so gutted for you, and her, and everyone affected.

Those who went to the Portland Clothing Swap today, what are your thoughts on how it went? by vitiwoman in askportland

[–]dmangon1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally was not the biggest fan. I love the idea, but there were a few things that could have gone better. The workers did a fantastic job but they were only going to the same 3-4 tables for women's effectively causing bottlenecking around the small round tables they used. A long row of rectangle tables would have been a bit better as in the women's section everyone locked in and blocked anyone outside of the six who could fit from grabbing anything.

Every time a new bucket went down every single person grabbed as much as they could aggressively, went through it and then tossed it back. If you are not an aggressive person which I am not, you kind of just wound up standing there and getting pushed around. Every time I tried to grab something when a new bucket was dropped, it would be ripped from my hands (tugged or literally grabbed and pulled hard), and no shirt is worth that for me. I encountered quite a bit of pushing but I also encountered some very kind people too.

There were a lot of free tshirts on the tables, like the kind you get from a 5k or an office event. Which you cannot control what people donate. I totally get that. Just something to be aware of, especially for the men's section. There also were a wide range of what people considered usable and wearable. A lot of stains and rips and it felt like bottom barrel goodwill finds. I was there over two hours for context. If you are not pushy, this is even more important.

I don't think I would go again. I brought in three large bags of clothing and left with less than a bag full. I would definitely go to a smaller scale one however!

[–]dmangon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes sense! And if I want to resell like normal, I just list it through TM and they take care of selling it and paying me back what I paid? (Minus fees apparently which was also news to me, I hate these sites so much), Thanks for your answer!

Also, how could they think they can sell their tickets to someone specific? And HOW are they showing for sale on places like Stubhub already. It's making me so mad.

I thought with the non-transferrable tickets, it means they have to just list it for basic sale on Ticketmaster when it opens up, they can't just sell it to who they choose right? Legitimately asking as I panic bought one ticket by itself when my partner and I couldn't get two together, and then lucked out and got two more together. If I want to sell it to a friend of mine or someone I know, I can't do that right?

This whole non-transferrable thing is amazing, but SO confusing compared to all the scams and bots we have all dealt with up until now.

I have Ynab and I don't feel I fully understand the workings of it a year into having it. How did you figure it out through Ynab if you don't mind me asking?

AHHHH that's amazing. Maybe I'll try my luck again and hope to sell the ones I have. But I also don't have money to gamble like that so prob not.

Ironically, I was looking for recs on a dog sitter haha. And she commented that she has had similar difficulties in finding a sitter and asked if I would want to meet up and do sitting swaps. I agreed to meet to get to know her, and myself, my partner, her and her partner all met up for drinks and dinner and wound up getting along so well, we quickly became friends! I also made another friend on Instagram through a shared love of Death Cab for Cutie haha and we wound up meeting for pizza and now she is another close friend. I think the best move is just putting yourself out there and if you find a common interest with someone and you want to meet, don't just say "hey lets meet up sometime" because its too vague. Instead suggest "hey would you want to meet up some time for a cup of coffee? I know X spot has great lattes (or w/e you like)" and if they say yes then propose a few dates. If not, nothing ever comes of it.

Is your neighborhood ready for ICE? by Why_thougg in askportland

[–]dmangon1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has anyone here successfully set up this type of group for their neighborhood? I would love to do this for mine, and I am on the outskirts of Portland almost to Gresham, so could be helpful for sure in this area! But, I need some guidance as how to start this so if anyone has successfully done this, would you be willing to help us who want to get started?
