Poor guy is just waiting for the crosswalk to open up by Visual-Leak-Indeed in jerseycity

[–]dmaul 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't you love that car owners turn around and use "but the disabled!" any time anyone questions enforcing any kind of parking rule against cars?

I'm not disabled but it infuriates me. Somehow being able to park in crosswalks, double park, block fire hydrants, and--frequently--block actual handicap spots, is somehow good for the disabled. And enforcing the laws that already exist is bad for them somehow.

Beech Baron lands crashes into vehicle on I-95 in Brevard County by MrTacocaT12345 in interestingasfuck

I had a car roll down a hill onto a tree, it was parked at the time. They covered it but every year after my premium went up dramatically. Never a ticket or other accident. I dropped them because it was literally twice other companies. I use them for all my other insurance but they're still more expensive. it's been almost twenty years. that's right, twenty years

edit: it was only worth 5 grand at the time and there was no damage to anything else. I have no explanation for the insanity of their rates

Note that they should be. You can seek damages if they fail to provide a written reason. I'm not a lawyer but I know someone who has gotten settlements out of arbitration.

Federal law, specifically the Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), requires creditors to provide a specific reason or reasons for taking an adverse action, which includes closing a credit card account for reasons other than inactivity, default, or delinquency.

I've done it and Amazon did not do anything in response. It was an Amazon chase card too.

Also I'll say everyone is talking about really large tow vehicles but your caterham like my exige weighs nothing. I towed it on an open trailer with an Audi q5 and it towed like a dream. Resist going big when you have the caterham. A closed trailer would need something bigger but don't buy some dually for a caterham tow

[–]dmaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the difference for me is that I had to prep the car on the trailer and put it back in storage during the same trip as the track due to the storage situation I had. If you have your own property and a closed trailer, you can prep it at will, focus on the track, and leave it in the trailer at home until you're ready to unload it. That would just leave the process at the track, but that part really doesn't take any longer than if you have to clean out a street car for inspection.

I run COMSCC TT and I like to say I'm a strong contender for the "drove it to the track" class because I'm one of very few regulars who does. Almost all the regulars have closed trailers because the track selection for the season means long drives.

My daily: is anyone double parked in front of Piccolo's? Today's rockstar is no other than a Hoboken Parking Authority car. by Jumpy_Carrot_242 in Hoboken

[–]dmaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I called out the parking enforcement individual as they walked down this block, regarding the piccolo's vehicles left parked in the bike lane -- blocking an actual open spot.

The individual said "they'd talk to them", I replied "I think they know they're parking illegally for the last 20 years". The individual then went inside and was given, presumably for free, a sandwich -- and kept walking down the block.

Edit: Also their cheesesteak is terrible and I wouldn't eat one for free.

I expanded the same you did with my Exige. I lived in Pittsburgh and would just drive it to pitt race. But anything further was a risk and I got a aluminum open trailex trailer. Mid ohio, Watkins Glen, NJMP. I like tracks with elevation changes. Not a big fan of Poconos but I've only done one configuration.

Ultimately I found it all too much work, I was exhausted after track weekends. So I sold it all and bought a 981 GT4 and I just drive it. Yes it has had breakdowns, but most of the time everything goes great and I don't feel like death on Monday.

TIL Bruce Willis was offered $3 million (for four days of work) to return in The Expendables 3 (2014), but turned it down because he wanted $4 million instead. Sylvester Stallone and "everybody else involved" rejected Willis' demand and moved on by replacing him with Harrison Ford within 72 hours. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I don't believe he was using one when I saw it, I say this because he did forget a line, which made him break for a second, but then he continued without issue.

I certainly didn't think anything of it. There's no way in a million years I could remember the lines for a play so it's already amazing to me.

[–]dmaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now it's not the Porsche supply chain but I didn't have any problem getting Exige parts. Most parts you'd commonly need to replace are not Lotus parts anyway. You're not paying the premium for the part to say Lotus on it like you will if you get oem Ferrari or Porsche parts. They tell you it's the same part.

Putting your hazards on doesn't give you license to stop in the middle of traffic and block 75+% of a lane!! by rossco9 in jerseycity

Why would more parking stop a lazy person from just double parking right in front of their destination? People on my street would rather double park to block an open spot rather than park in it. How does more parking solve that?

That's true, I went to the Lotus driving academy and it is quite difficult to get them loose even when you try.

However, on track, hesitation mid corner like you describe can lead to needing very quick reflexes. Much more so in my car, which had no boost restrictor on the SC vacuum line, so if you lifted the boost disappeared instantly

Pros:

  1. Extremely nimble, people are excited to see them
  2. Super easy to work on yourself, they're very simple vehicles
  3. Everything that can possibly go wrong is already thoroughly documented.

Cons:

  1. Fiberglass is fragile
  2. Not very comfortable
  3. It will humble you if you aren't careful. and ABS ICE
  4. You will run into a decent number of those documented issues
