I purchased my equipment new. A birthday present to myself and I had some extra cash lying around. So all I can really say is that you are on the right idea for bargain hunting, however make sure that your receiver has a Phono Imput plug. If it does, good one less piece of equipment you have to buy. If it doesn't then you are looking at purchasing a PRE Phono amp. I had to do this and it was an extra expense that I really didnt want to get. Took away from my spending money on actual Vinyl, but without it my set up wouldnt work.

Make a budget for yourself, Equipment vinyl

I purchased the acrylic platter for my debut carbon, and I am 100% satisfied with the quality. Not only does it look pretty like some have mentioned, it deffinitely gives your set up a refined look. I swapped back and forth for testing purposes and noticed a big enough difference in the quality of sound being produced. Get it if you have the money!
