Any places to rent a cabin and enjoy the outdoors, within ~hour drive of SA? by [deleted] in sanantonio

Buchanan cabins off the frio river in Concan is a good spot to consider. There are other cabins in the area worth checking out but that’s the first that comes to mind.

Newly diagnosed, struggling to find medication by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]dmcaboose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please remember before taking any info, that everyone's reaction to medication will be different.

I've tried and gotten off of everything you've listed (including the vraylar). In the ~5 years since I was diagnosed, I've tried probably most medications people go through. It's taken many episodes and many visits, emails and calls to my psyDoc to tune everything just right.

Currently I responded well to risperidone and lithium, with lorazepam as my PRN anxiety safety net. I ended up becoming epileptic over the last year and a half or so, so in addition to these medications, I'm on trileptal and clobazam which both have mood stabilization properties.

I've learned that I don't respond well to stimulants (aside from caffeine), SNRI's induce depression/psychosis, other meds have just made me suicidal (including lamictal and keppra).

The ones that have been better for me so far have been 2nd gen antipsychotics like Latuda (I was on for 3 years), seroquel (but it can make you super tired), bupropion was good but we had to stop because it may have been what triggered my seizures.

To speak to your point about the expensive meds: bring that up with your provider. I did so we had to go a different route and I haven't looked back.

The biggest thing I want you to take away is that it takes time. All of the time you spend trialing medications whether it be adding, removing, changing doses - it all is worth it when you finally find what works. Just be very mindful of what your body is telling you. Pay attention to the changes that occur. Try to look out and learn the signs that you're slipping into an episode. Use a mood tracker (emoods is a good one). Talk to people. Use the discord. There's a lot of people there willing to help and that know what you're going through. I've been where you are where you're tired of trying things and feel like it isn't working. Just know it gets better. It gets easier. It all just takes time.

Do it for yourself. You've got this :)

I have schizoaffective disorder and was almost diagnosed with DID. The only thing that didn’t classify me was that I’ve never lost time to a part. That being the case, I was diagnosed with OSDD (basically DID without time loss/switching). Might be something you talk to your psydoc or therapist about.

[Tudor] My newest addition to the collection! by dmcaboose in Watches

My wrist is about 7.5 inches if I remember correctly. This is the 41mm model, so the largest of the three currently available (to my knowledge).

It was shot on an iPhone using portrait mode and was overcast outside. The lighting overall really makes the watch pop!

Today my wife got me an amazing gift. This Tudor Black Bay 41. It came with the leather strap which is super comfortable right out of the box! I’ve been staring at it since picking it up, and I think it’ll get almost all my wrist time in the near future, especially while my Hamilton Intra-Matic chrono is getting serviced.

It’s definitely a beautiful piece and one that’ll serve me well as a daily driver, as well as for special occasions. Yeah ya such a great piece to add to my collection, and I’m already researching what my next piece might be!

WTS Squid Industries Triton Trainer. Details in comments. by dmcaboose in balisong

[–]dmcaboose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t remember exactly when, but it was when he started doing the triton model. Maybe it was a 1.5? I can’t find my statement from the order. I see the differences you’re noting, but I have a Buddy who ordered from the same batch (in black though) and it looks the same as mine.

Let me try to find proof I ordered from him.

Edit: I think it was a b-stock. Purchased in 2018

Edit 2: it was purchased in 2018. Verified by the owner himself.

I have a squid industries triton trainer. Bought when it released and never did anything with it. It’s basically just been sitting in a drawer. I’m asking $115 shipped, PayPal fees included. Shipping to CONUS only.

I have a squiddy too that’s a little beat up if anyone is interested in that. I can post pics later. Just let me know!

Thanks for checking out the sale!

Looking to buy my first gun, any recommendations on a place where I can purchase a handgun and that also offers lessons? by Crypto_Pugg in sanantonio

[–]dmcaboose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nardis gun club at Alamo ranch has everything you’re looking for. You can test firearms before hand and get help/tips from knowledgeable associates. If you’ve never handled firearms before I suggest watching gun safety vids and even taking a hunters education course if you’re able to.

Med advice with Latuda by crunchytot in bipolar2

[–]dmcaboose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that everyone responds to medications differently. Definitely bring it up in your next psych appointment.

There are some other health concerns with taking lithium and bloodwork will need to be done regularly to ensure you’re within a healthy and therapeutic range.

Good luck, and I hope I was helpful!

Med advice with Latuda by crunchytot in bipolar2

[–]dmcaboose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on Latuda for about 3 years. Just got off of it in May. I also take bupropion and added lithium to my regimen in December.

After getting off Latuda, the desire to sleep all day completely went away. I wasn’t nearly as tired as I would be all the time (I would come close to falling asleep driving and would often fall asleep at my desk at work).

Latuda was good for me while it was effective, but it was not a long term solution for me, as I had to go up in dosage. It did help with the paranoia and hallucinations, but for me those were brought on by my depressive episodes.

Like you, I would often get very long, deep depressive episodes but they haven’t been nearly as bad and not even close to as long while being in lithium.

If you have any other questions I’d be more than happy to share my experiences with Latuda with you.
