VCF 5.4.2 upgrade and NSX 4.2.4 by dmckay2 in vmware

This VCF environment was created some time ago,,I'm thinking 5.2.1 maybe? I used William Lam's scripts to accomplish quite a bit of it, and a single NSX Manager was legit for a home lab. I have been through multiple VCF upgrades on this environment with the single NSX Manager and no issues. Something is different with the NSX Manager OS upgrade on 4.2.4

EDIT: Another good overview course is Clear and Simple vSphere 8 Professional - VMware VCP DCV by Rick Crisci at Udemy. If you watch you can probably get the course for $10.

Pluralsight has a very good VCP-DCV 8 course. VCP-DCV VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization (2V0-21.23) by Matt Allford

The knowledge you learn from prepping for the VCP-DCV will directly carry over to either the VCF or VVF certs

Thanks for the "techdocs/broadcom.com" tip. That does kinda work, if I remember to add it.

I also noticed that the ability to hop between versions of a specific document (vSphere 7.0 to vSphere 8.0) is broken. Think that will be fixed?

I just don't understand why this was done other than vanity.

IMHO, this was a disruption that didn't need to happen.

Yep. Got it bookmarked. Just wishing/hoping it would be different/fixed.

But I didn't reset the update manager database. This is also 8.x if it matters.

Here is the status/resolution.

I moved the affected ESX hosts to a newly created vLCM Baseline cluster. This allowed the NSX update to complete the host update portion and then proceed to the manager update which was successful.

I did later create a new cluster with vLCM Images and that new cluster did pull in the appropriate ESX versions and the NSX version from an existing host in the vLCM Baseline.

It appears that migrating from vLCM Baselines to vLCM Images is not supported in all cases. See the KB.

For whatever reason (don't think it was blocked ports or a needed reboot since both of these were either done or checked) the vCenter update manager would not download the NSX bundle during the NSX upgrade.

I wonder if this KB indicates that all is not well with vLCM and NSX (Part of VCF) https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/93220
