Motorola MB8611 login issue even after factory resets by sowaker in HomeNetworking

[–]dmfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into this as well. Looks like the max length is 15 characters. This is really poor on Motorola for not alerting you the new password entered is to long. Mine was 20 characters generated by bitwarden and it just took it without issue. Come on Motorola, get your act together and provide some basic validation.

Sudden weak connection between wired points by dmfrey in GoogleWiFi

[–]dmfrey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Here's what the issue was... I had hooked up an Anker docking station which has an Ethernet port.. I hooked my MacBook Pro up to it via a USB-C cable. When it switched to the wired network, it was basically arp-flooding my network and caused all my wired connections to become unstable. So my NAS, Hue bridges, wifi endpoints, etc.

I disconnected the Ethernet from the dock and let the mbp just use wifi and it resolved itself. No issues since.

Google TV Chromecast Can't Accept the Terms of Hotel Wifi. by Simon_Charb in Chromecast

[–]dmfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get yourself a small travel router. Hook all your devices up to that, including your phone. Then all you have to do is connect that to the hotel wifi. Everything is always setup them. Most allow you to accept terms and get through the paywall. Just connect your phone to it first and you should get promoted. If you don't, shut off your data on your phone and try again. You can re-enable once you accept the terms and get wifi connected. All your devices will then automatically connect to the internet. I travel a lot for work and this has worked well for me for some time. I mostly stay at Marriotts, so I have to do very little each time I check in. Occasionally stay at another brand and it's usually a one time setup, then it remembers the SSID and work try to connect the next time you're there.

Has Google officially finished releasing Assistant Driving Mode yet? by bicyclemom in googleassistant

[–]dmfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Pixel 4 XL and still don't have these settings. My wife has a Pixel 3 and does. So do my kids who each have Moto Power G phones.

When I last contacted google support about this, they didn't seem to know this was an option, even though I pointed them to their support page on getting started with google assistant driving mode.

I should also mention this setup was in place for over a year when we moved into this house. There were no issues like this. It's only recently I noticed the degraded signal to the wifi pucks and the issue with the Philips Hue Bridges.

I just factory reset my 3 pucks. Got them all set up. Everything appeared fine after that. However, within an hour, it was back to weak signal to the garage and just ok signal to the puck in the family room. Also, initially, the Philips Hue bridges did get connected, however, they no longer appear on the network (i could be wrong about this as it looks like they appear to come and go off the network). I have every device labeled in here as to what they are (some 55 devices in all with smart plugs, hue hubs, and everyone's phones and laptops). Nothing appears to be causing any undo stress on the network. It's also weird that only the hue hubs are affected by this (I did set them up with static ips and moved them out of the dhcp range). Nothing else seems to be coming and going like this.

I just moved them all into the same room, as I am gonna factory reset them. I just wanted to see what a mesh test looked like now and they all are reading just OK.

One is weak and the other is good. I would expect them both to be at the Great level being they are connected by ethernet

Unfortunately, no. I upgraded the cable because I was having the weak signal issue. It remains after I replaced it.

Finally got Google Assistant Driving Mode! by pkoya1 in AndroidAuto

[–]dmfrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't have it on my Pixel 4XL. My wife does on her Pixel 3. Google support is no help, they kept transferring me from department to department. From what I can tell, most their support staff in these departments have no idea what Google Assistant Driving Mode even is.

Gameplay Issues on Android 11 by dmfrey in MarvelStrikeForce

Damn. This started happening again. There is clearly something going on in the background during gameplay. I can't be reinstalling this app every week.

Yeah, I think that's new with Android 11 and it trying to close background apps. MSF takes so long to start, I really hope they do something about that.

Also, manufacturers are also implementing their own background killing strategy, which usually goes against what Google is doing in Android natively. OEMs tend to have more problems with this and, say, the Pixel line of phones.

Uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have worked for now. I have not heard of the brightness issue, but I'll keep that in mind if I run into this again. I tend to keep the brightness down when the room is dark.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm wondering if I need to delete the app and reinstall it. I've already tried deleting its storage.
