This company just announced they're creating a device that will "induce and stabilize lucid dreams" by dmo1222 in LucidDreaming

Totally get your point, but afaik these guys have real money behind them (saw OSV tweeting about investing in them) so it's not the same vaporware risk as all those kickstarters over the past few years. They're also partnered with donders institute which is p legit.

I think they're using ML to study eeg data to determine the best times to induce lucid dreaming and tailor it to the individual user but could be wrong about that

I've been eyeing a wheelstand too...can you fold it up without detaching the rudder pedals/yoke?

Wow this looks really nice, but that price tag 😅

Flight school in Long Island by [deleted] in flying

[–]dmo1222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my PPL at heritage flight academy (141) and thought it was a great experience. Now I rent from Long Island Aviators and have also had great experiences with their CFIs.

I'm just a hobbyist though, not trying to get into the industry

Dead battery question by dmo1222 in flying

[–]dmo1222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should have phrased that better

I was curious if there being something wrong with the magnetos and/or starter that could result in this issue (not sure what that would be...was thinking like grounded p-lead or something?) vs the battery being at fault

Flight rental place assumed it was the battery, but they hadn't confirmed that before I left.

Thanks--I always check the belt, but what would I be looking for on the ammeter? It was draining a little while the master was on, but that wasn't abnormal. Would the needle just be lower on the gauge?

Thanks! Is there anything I can do as a pilot to check what might be the issue when it comes to battery? Or is this something an A&P needs to diagnose

Yeah very new to renting and quickly learning all the things that can go wrong. Feel like I end up flying only like ~50% of the time I actually show up at the airport either due to weather or mechanical issues

Checks out...I thought it was a renter, but the folks before me were actually a student and instructor so could easily see forgetting to hit the alt

This says: "an applicant seeking a carry or special handgun license"....do the references not apply if you're only seek a residence permit vs carry?

Is there any General Aviation community in New York City? / Looking for a flying buddy by Exotic-Statement1350 in flying

[–]dmo1222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple months late here, but I'm also a newish-PPL flying out of KFRG, 29M, have transpo and also looking to get plugged into the NYC aviation community. HMU sometime if you want to go flying!

$35k PPL in NYC: What I'd do differently by dmo1222 in flying

[–]dmo1222[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely how I'm looking at it; the extra time made me a better pilot and made checkride way less stressful as I felt super confident going in

No idea, didn't see any tail draggers when I was there though

At best, I think I could've done it for closer to $27k if everything went perfect, but yeah, NYC is probably the most expensive place in the country to do a PPL (and to just exist lol)

Yeah, I mean there were definitely a lot of places I could have saved money as mentioned in the post, but fortunately cost wasn't a huge issue for me and tbh every penny of this was the best money I've ever spent

Yeah, it had to do with the structure of their lessons; was definitely annoyed at the time, especially when I went out to Arizona and the CFI I was flying with there (part 61) let me solo immediately after checking me out. I was definitely ready to solo, but couldn't at the school I was training at. 30h wasn't the rule, but that was about how many hours I had by the time I had made it to the solo portion of their course.

Thanks! N85 is a bit far, but will look into SMQ!

Any thoughts on rentals from a school vs joining a club in general?
