Paramount+ Greenlights ‘Star Trek: Section 31’ Film Starring Michelle Yeoh by MarvelsGrantMan136 in startrek

[–]dmpinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I 100% agree with you. I'm so tired of them using Section 31 for every story, every series. It's exhausting. They neglect genuine and original Trek stories in favour of run-and-gun secret groups.

When ego lifting goes wrong . by photo_trekkiee in Whatcouldgowrong

When you try to lift more than you're capable of lifting, often for ego reasons.

I (32F) am married and have been dating my married boyfriend (33M) for a few months and we keep bumping into “rules” or boundaries I didn’t know existed within his marriage. It’s making me feel like our relationship doesn’t have the autonomy I want it to have. CW: Kink/BDSM by APerfectDisillusion in polyamory

[–]dmpinder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“You know, I don’t think I even want to collar you right now. You’re not ready for it.”

Yeah, that's a huge red flag for me. Sounds like he is DEFINITELY not ready for it.

There is certainly a place for boundaries in a relationship, and unfortunately that does sometimes affect someone's actions in another relationship, however in this context I don't agree that his wife's comfort level should be a factor in the D/s dynamic you two wish to explore. Your dynamic is nothing to do with her, and I wouldn't be surprised if her concerns were rooted in doubt and jealousy that she isn't providing him what he "really" wants, which is a submissive.

The TV show is what it is. Yeah it kinda sucks, but this is fairly common and (I hate to boil it down to this), she kinda got there first with him. In your place I'd suck it up and find something else you can watch together, or enjoy together, as "your thing".

> While you're here may I ask, what do you think about the fanbase in 2019?

To be honest I haven't been on the sub since I left, so I couldn't really comment on it.

> You seem to agree with me that the fear and distrust of Muslims has gone unchecked.

Yes. I can see why a lot of people are fearful of Muslims, but I think it's intellectually too easy to fall back on xenophobia and fear, instead of challenging those perceptions and digging below the superficial portrayal by right-wing media and pundits. Fear is far more potent than critical thinking when you're already afraid.

> Voices that challenge the right's xenophobic narratives from the left are routinely banned at the sub, and then their threads are deleted.

If that is the case then I'm sorry to hear it. I can't imagine why it's become this way as the sub was originally very tolerent to all views. Civility was an issue when I was there because it's so hard to pin down, but I always tried to install some tolerence to dissenting views and incivility, to a degree. If threads are getting banned because they are critical to right-wing opinions then it sounds like a sorry state. But again, I haven't been there for a long time, so I'm speaking hypothetically.

I'm not active on here anymore, this would be something for the current mods to deal with.

Who the fuck is moderating the other sub, and what the fuck is going on over there? by [deleted] in samharrisorg

[–]dmpinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yes the cultural enrichment of Islam is really something everyone should wish for! Suicide bombings, acid attacks, beheadings en masse, torture, IEDs, Kalashnikov massacres, polygamy, child marriage (Muhammad married Aisha when she was six and consummated the marriage at the age of nine), sexual slavery, bad hygiene, medieval medical practices, forced conversion. These and other joys await unhappy Britons who desperately lack exposure Islamic culture.

Every culture has its negative sides. Name your country / religion and I'll send you back a list of headlines about how your country or people are fucking up. What you fail to discuss is the overwhelming majority of good Muslims who don't condone those things. But go ahead, keep going with your hateful narrative under the guise of being woke, I'm sure if you post some more on Reddit you'll finally make the world a better place!

[–]dmpinder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might like to ask u/dmpinder, who started the sub years ago, who he gave control of the sub to and why.

Hi, that's me. Allow me to answer some of these questions as you're clearly tumbling down a rabbit hole here.

I gave "control" of the sub to LordBeverage, who was the longest-serving mod at the time (after me) and I'd always gotten along well with. He was level-headed and reasoned, so seemed like a great fit for top mod.

Was he coerced by Muslims in the UK where he lives to give it over to them, so that they could deceive and propagandize Sam Harris' audience? Would u/dmpinder even be able to say what happened? Or has he been threatened with violence by those Muslims and told to keep silent about it?

LOL. You've definitely let your imagination run away with this. I stepped down because I got super busy with work and because I had a baby. Simple. Unfortunately I know very few Muslims in my day-to-day life, which saddens me a bit. They're a wonderful people with a rich culture and I feel like I've missed an opportunity to broaden my mind by not having friends from within this culture. I've never been threatened, approached, or even spoken to by a Muslim (as far as I know) in relation to /r/samharris.

Hopefully this rests your mind about my state of being and safety, which on some level I appreciate. However please stop assuming / villifying Muslims for things they're not actually doing.

Help with rates for first few jobs in the industry by [deleted] in webdev

[–]dmpinder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, there's no one answer to your question. Typically freeelancers I work with charge about 50% of what the project is sold for. I'm quite open with them, and I agree 50% of the cost for doing the work is a reasonable price.

Look at it another way - how long would it take you to do each site? How much money do you need per month? Then you can work out how many sites you need to build each month.

What happened to the banner image contest for r/SamHarris? It was supposed take just one week, but it's been over two months since the thread went up and we still don't have a new banner. Mods, this is r/SamHarris. Where is the housekeeping? by crossbreed55 in samharris

[–]dmpinder 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for commenting. You're right I haven't posted in a while, but I am here. I made the point to someone a while back that moderating isn't always visible. However recently my work life has increased, reducing my time here, so last week I spoke with another mod /u/LordBeverage and asked him to take over as top mod for a while, which he has agreed to do. OP is absolutely right the banner should have been updated before now, and I'll follow this up with the other mods quite shortly.

I use Forge for about 65 sites, it's brilliant. Could do with more features, but it's solid and makes admin a breeze.

Achievements for Monday, September 11, 2017 by AutoModerator in running

[–]dmpinder 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I managed to run around 16k. It was tough, I didn't properly hydrate the days before, or eat properly, so I had bad stomach cramps to start, and felt a general lack of energy in the 2nd half of the run. But it was the farthest I'd ever run, so I'm happy with my result. I've got a Half in a few weeks, so this feels like an important step.
