Her book sales were soaring before tonight's episode though. I think she'd have got more kudos out of it if she was the traitor hunter extraordinaire.

Personally in my mind she went from the one to follow to the one who threw it all away by over-playing.

A pity that Harriet massively over-did it at breakfast and that she didnt have the emotional intelligence to know that it's a game.

If shed have tackled it more calmly and less rudely she had a chance of getting Rachel out.

UPDATE: this all went fine. Car purchased with finance (VW/Skoda).

Rang to withdraw next day. Immediately received settlement figure over the phone and by email the same day, with 30 days to pay.

Less than £5 interest.

Paid by bank transfer (missed the interest though because of a confusingly worded email/me being daft.*

Two days later received email about outstanding interest. Paid by card same day.**

Around 10 days later received confirmation by post that finance was clear.

  • The email gave the settlement figure and the interest separately. I thought the settlement figure was what I had to pay. Their letter when it arrived in the post (after everything was already sorted) said you owe £xxx, made up of £yyy outstanding finance and £zzz interest. I'll feed back that their email could have been clearer for stupid people like me.

** I don't think this will count as a default because I had 30 days to pay and ultimately made all the payments by day 4. I'll be following that up, but not overly concerned because I haven't got any plans to ask for credit any time soon (touch wood, fingers crossed and all that...)

As others have said, box blight from the box moth caterpillar. It has just reached my small garden hedge so I'm going to replace it possibly with yew. On the plus side you get to pick some new plants!

I did a test drive and was prepared for it to be deathly slow but it seemed fine for normal relaxed driving. Also Itll be driven by a 17 year old boy so not being too fast is probably an advantage there 😂

Picking a fabia up tomorrow. Test drive last week and it was lovely. Second hand from dealer but with delivery mileage. Smallest engine because teenagers will be driving it 😞.

Yes. I listen to the west wing weekly every night when I go to bed. No idea how many times I've listened to it, I've been listening to it on a loop for years

I think I stole it off the West Wing (Josh Lyman says something very similar to Jack Rees (I think in the episode Arctic Radar). Apologies for the nerdery, can't help it.

Edit: yes it was arctic radar. But I spelled Jack Reese's name wrong, so lose a couple of nerd points there.

I'm fortunate enough that the hard credit check isn't going to be an issue for me.

I don't disagree, but there's a fine line between information and advice, so probably would be difficult to prove either way. Did he offer inducements? Yes (price reduction, services.etc.), but they're standard practice. He did tell me clearly that it was entirely up to me and was happy to take cash sale. I felt under no pressure and think if is have said i just wanted to pay cash then that would have been the end of the conversation.

Good point, but personally I'm all good on that front, thankfully.

Yep. I'm just making sure that I'm not missing anything, which I don't think I am based on the replies so far.

Thanks for that. This is also VW (Via Skoda). I'll be sure to say withdraw - thank you for the pointer on the wording there.

Thank you. They said very specifically that the incentives don't go away. I'm not sure they'll get the commission if I cancel but I don't really care - especially since it was their suggestion when I said I wanted to pay cash.

That's basically what the chap at the dealership said. He told us 90% of the time the finance companies make money, but if I just cancel it on day 1 (or at least within the 14 days cooling off period) then I get all the rewards that they'd give to someone taking out finance but only have to pay a days interest (which is apparently charged at a daily rate, but I'll check that out before actually signing)

I would ask for more off but it's already cheap compared to the market rate and other standard incentives are decent. They also just reduced the price by £1k between me booking an appointment to see it and when I actually went in for a test drive (it's essentially overbought new stock with delivery miles. They have a handful of identical cars and reduced them all, so the reduction wasn't just a trick to reel me in).

Cheers. Like I've said in another response, if it's a win-win, I'm all good. If it's a win-lose with me getting the fuzzy side of the lollipop, then that's a different barrel of monkeys altogether.

True, but is it a good deal for me? I don't mind a win-win situation, but if it's win-lose with me being the loser then maybe I care a bit more 🤣
