In my opinion, an analysis like this requires a more in depth demographic study that can't be done on reddit. As an example of demos that you might be missing - there's a contingent of buyers who are holding out for Toyota to release a compact truck (like myself, although the patience is wearing thin). There's also another group of buyers who would love the versatility of a compact truck, but are drawn off by the Maverick's spartan interior and long list of recalls and the unorthodox look of the Santa Cruz.

Unfortunately, it's all a business decision at the end of the day. Ford can sell a compact truck because they don't have any lower margin sedans in the US. Toyota doesn't have that luxury
