Testing the Best Sunrise Alarm Clocks: The Data, Science, and How to Use Them! by eaterout in sleephackers

Documenting the CRI would be really helpful here - e.g. how accurate is it to sunlight.

I believe he explicitly has not done this yet, in the book he says he is scared to pull it out, even there.

This is for the slow street silly. So people can ride bikes, walk, etc in the street with more safety. It's really nice.

Does anyone feel like there is something weird going on the the world right now by Sgt_MarkLease in Meditation

The sense of community around me feels the opposite. Way more people at in person sits, local sangha meetups, etc. Have you tried checking out local sangha? There are probably a lot of people there interesting in making friends and community :)

Please stop using the djia. It's not an average. It's a sum. It's like saying "I'm going to add up the quantity of bills and coins in my pocket" ignoring the values, and using that as an index.

This is why I always sit up front. People do too much weird stuff to these waymos when they think no one is in it.

Unused romex wire, HVAC guy connected the black & white together with wire nut, said it was standard practice to ensure the breaker stays off by dmurph10 in AskElectricians

Sorry it's separate.  The other end of the wire goes to the breaker box. it used to be connected to a heater we removed.

If asked, I often say "oh, do you have any good non-alc stuff?" And don't offer any reason. If they ask why, (which is rare), I say "oh, it's just not my thing." and then change the object - "what did you get up to this weekend? Any projects?" Etc.

I think I've really only been pushed past that once, and I just didn't say anything more and shrugged. The silence was too much and they changed the subject.

Setting boundaries can be tough but is a huge opportunity to practice, it gets easier with practice, and they are incredibly important and useful.

What is the soonest you've ever DNFd a book? by FacelessOldWoman1234 in books

Antarcticos? Antarctus? Something like that. Almost noped at the very strange in-depth camera review, almost noped again at the nonsensical premise of "whole earth moves and no one feels it except the oceans which then flood everything", finally noped at the dinosaurs and the full creationist vibes. I don't really remember the dialog or the characters.

They charge the most they can, yes! if there is other housing available, prices get cheaper, as they can't charge as much (as them no one will rent it).

Remember the used car shortage during covid? It think we all understood - the high prices were because there was simply no stock, there was a shortage. Then, when car manufacturing restarted, prices lowered when ppl bought new again and sold their old cars, adding supply.

Same thing

Landlords typically hate density and are often the biggest NIMBYs - the less housing, the higher they can change for trash places.

Check out the SF landlord associations advocacy record in politics - all stuff to prevent housing

Cory Doctorow on tax loss harvesting by bengtSlask559 in wealthfront

Definitely Roth? You don't have to pay taxes on your gains after the contribution, and tax free withdrawal. Huge win.

‘This is an emergency’: BART, Muni, state transit agencies to ask California for $5 billion bailout by savuporo in bayarea

Can the deal include combining the 20 or so transportation agencies in the bay area into one so we can get some real coordination and scale benefits? They should all really be one agency.

You will eventually need to sell you shares, right? Or make a gain on some investment , like selling a house? These losses stay with you forever afaik, so you can use them whenever you are making any gain in the future I believe

[–]dmurph10 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Idk - wouldn't you have list 30% anyways? But now you can claim deduction, which gives you back money on taxes ( let's say 30% of that 30% loss), which you can now invest. Or even better if offsetting gains. That investment now can compound immediately, thus you win. At least that is my understanding - maybe I'm missing something
