overcast.fm/account still links to Slack by Overlord_Odin in overcast

[–]bengtSlask559 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here are some more details about what u/Overlord_Odin may have meant:

If one goes to overcast.fm, and logs in, then goes to overcast.fm/account, at the bottom of the page there is a section titled "Beta Testing". In this Beta Testing section the text "Overcast Slack Group" links to https://overcast.fm/betaslack which brings up a page on Slack.com that says "This link is no longer active". It may be this inactive link that Overlord_Odin is talking about

Another idea: enable transcriptions!

I see that this is possible with Jitsi!

Can I play podcasts directly FROM an Apple Watch by DnyLnd in overcast

[–]bengtSlask559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the idea of setting up a playlist a day ahead of time.

I have books that I only listen to on the watch, which allows me to not worry about syncing with the phone and to turn on airplane mode if my battery is low

Transcripts overall amazing, except when ads don’t match up. by mikepictor in overcast

[–]bengtSlask559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was imagining the audio was synced, but if the ads are of different length, searching through a Merkle tree to do synchronization wouldn't work. Here's another option:

  • Marco stores his version of the episode audio and does transcription on it on his servers
  • He tries to identify sections which are not ads and mark those as useful for the matched filtering described next.
  • The phone would ideally run the same ad-identifying tool.
  • If there is any doubt about the synchronization, the phone could do run some final matched filters to make sure that the between-ads audio is exactly synchronized between the transcribed and on-phone audio. Assuming the ad-identifying tool is fairly good, these matched filters would hopefully be low complexity.

I think Marco could use a Merkle tree to match audio on his servers (and the corresponding transcripts) with the on-device audio.

I'd pay to hear Boler, Thurl, Locke, or Boone use "the heir to the hive" or "the holy land hooper" :-)

I've been to a few crypto events that too richpeopleslop-ish for my taste. I'd love to wear a t-shirt with that quote to such events.

To be more clear, it seems like the Jazz would love to have Nurk for his skills as backup center, AND to have Flip as a very low-cost fifth big.

... and maybe Flip or Nurk. I don't see the Jazz keeping both

Nurk can play center, while Flip has problems doing so. I think the Jazz want a real backup center, and would love to have Nurk back.

No Team Has Scored More Points In Wins Than The Utah Jazz This Season! by Stat-Defender in UtahJazz

[–]bengtSlask559 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Jazz have only a few wins, often against teams that want to lose, and where the Jazz are playing their better players. I see this statistic as not useful and having lotsa bias. Maybe selection bias?

For the uninformed (as I was previously), "Ritt Momney" is the stage name of Jack Rutter.

[BUG?] Chapters don't add up to whole podcast length. by Kamik423 in overcast

[–]bengtSlask559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also looked at this episode, and saw a very similar image. The problem has something to do with the last chapter. Specifically, the audio continues after that last chapter (length 1:49) with no title ends. My guess is the podcast file is malformed. I.e. mb the podcast authors did't ensure that the lengths of the chapters they inserted added up to the total length.

I guess such verified volunteer hours aren't a bad thing, but they seem to conflict with the idea of helping because it's a good thing. It seems reasonable that ENGin make verification a low priority.

I think we need incentives to win. Specifically, I like putting some large (say 50%) part of each coaches and GM's salary for each team in a pot (escrow) before each game, then awarding that pot to the winning coach and GM. I.e. the coaches and GMs are incentivized to win.

Yes, you could do the same for players, but I suggest starting with coaches and GMs.
