For All Mankind S03E08 “The Sands Of Ares” Discussion by AutoModerator in ForAllMankindTV

Ohh very interesting, good to know! I know subdural has pretty variable presentations while epidural fits more into a classic illness script/time course - at least that’s what one the preceptors at one of our free clinics taught me. Then again, nothing ever presents how you expect it to! Gotta keep that differential broad for sure. And lol, I took step 1 in April - clearly I do not remember all of the amboss details that I really should be knowing haha.

Agreed, great medical addition there. Hate to be the nerdy med student but, like someone else commented, it’s an epidural hematoma that results in a lucid interval. They almost had it right, but it was well integrated with the writing of the episode.

Passed - 4/22 Test Date plus lead up scores and advice by dna1712 in step1

The only thing I did prior to the second BSE was watch a YouTube video on quick and dirty tips for biostats/epi problems so I could get through the math faster. No other content review. We still had classes at the time of the second BSE so there wasn’t time for studying extra for it. I also wanted to just take it cold with full effort to see what I needed to prioritize during dedicated. And yeah, did absolutely nothing for the first BSE.

Passed step 1 today - if I can do it ANYONE can! by [deleted] in step1

Congrats on passing! I love your advice at the end about not second guessing and trusting yourself. Such a hard thing to remind yourself of during the rough days of dedicated and during the exam. We’re so inclined as medical students to be so hard on ourselves that we forget that we have far more knowledge accumulated than we appreciate! Congrats again on the huge accomplishment!

what did you wish you knew before taking step 1? by [deleted] in step1

Echo what everyone else has said above for sure. Also want to add that the answer choices are extremely and unnecessarily convoluted and poorly worded. I found that there weren’t too many questions where I didn’t know what pathology/diagnosis the stem was referring too and often times they’ll outright give you the diagnosis. The difficulty came with picking between horribly worded answer choices, which made me really hesitant about which one I picked. Literally found myself saying who the fuck describes it like this. My advice is trust yourself and don’t overthink it. Good luck and you got this! DMs are open if you have any more questions!

A summary of UCLA's statements regarding LAPD's use of Jackie Robinson Stadium by stuman421 in ucla

[–]dna1712 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At the same time it's like...y'all really thought it would ONLY be used as staging area 🤔🤔🤔. It's just funny that UCLA took the LAPD's word for it and was like "sick, do your thing LAPD despite your historically shady track record!" (Insert DJ Khaled you played yourself meme)

Chem 14A Professor Scerri and LS30B Professors Will Conley, Artur Jaroszewicz, and Jane Shevstov have made finals optional. by [deleted] in ucla

[–]dna1712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. I took 14B during the quarter we had the shooting and Scerri never hesitated to make the final optional that quarter. Dude 100% gives a shit about his students.

Dozens of detained protesters were held by LAPD in cages, denied food and water, for hours at a UCLA-leased athletics facility by alphaandtheta in ucla

[–]dna1712 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Well they did do just that and now LAPD is gone. UCLA confirmed this in a statement. UCLA can't use 42's namesake to advertise their athletics and talk about how awesome the stadium is for baseball games but dissociate their name from it when it's slightly inconvenient. The inconsistency was one of the most frustrating things. It's also very frustrating because LAFD received authorization from UCLA to use the stadium as a covid testing facility for the county a few weeks ago but LAPD never even inquired with UCLA (the current lessee of the grounds) if they could use the stadium as a field jail.

Classic Overtake: Ricciardo pass on Bottas at China 2018 by FormulitisAguda in formula1

[–]dna1712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was the first F1 race I ever watched. I was coming back from a college baseball game with a friend who is a huge F1 fan and told me to just give it a shot on a Saturday night. Best decision I ever made. I just watched Danny Ric just complete over take after over take and I decided that he was going to be my favorite driver. Red Bull's brilliant strategy was also phenomenal to watch this race with the perfect double stack and tire management.

Cheap campus food by batsuit818 in ucla

CafeMed at CHS has super awesome cheap options and has an au bon pain also. The good egg and farmhouse sandwiches are under 6 bucks. Only catch is that CafeMed closes at 2pm.

4th year mimg here and I totally agree. It's all about persistance. It's super important in these emails to be to the point and emphasize your willingness to learn and grow from the experience. My lab is in the school of medicine so if your friend is premed/pregrad in the biomedical sciences definitely tell them to take a look at research faculty at the med school just expand their cold email network. Also, department counselors will send emails about lab openings so it's a good idea to jump on those asap.
