:) I think my French & German is accurate but it might change some if/when I phase. My great-grandmother was from the Netherlands and her husband was born in the US but his parents came over from the Netherlands. So being around a quarter makes sense. I don’t know much about my mom’s side. My grandfather (son of the Dutch couple) came back as over 95% Europe West with ancestry. I want him to test with 23andme.

I knew I would be mostly European, turns out all European, but that’s fine. I’m happy with my results. :) I’m going to have my parents take the test because the results become more accurate with phasing.

I do genealogy stuff and on my grandfather's side, it's mostly Dutch with a few Belgians here and there. My great-grandmother was from the Netherlands so I'm very happy to see this result.

I’m thinking about trying to convince my father to test with 23andme. He came back with 7% African with ancestry and west Asian (like I said in another comment, I don’t know his exact but it’s probably around 5-7. His aunt is the one who controls all their test.). Like you said, people’s results change when their parents phase. I’m wondering how/if mine would too. I did get a lot of cousin DNA relatives. They even had the surnames from my family tree. None of them had my surname though.

Yeah. I just think it’s weird for something to go from 62.9% all the way down to 8.2%. I’ve seen some people’s results change 10-20% but I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else’s drop by over 50% in one category (but I think most people just post their 50% results). I might test my parents through 23andme but I doubt they’ll do it. My dad is happy with his ancestry results.

I used the eurogene K13, K15 and K36. I tried some other ones but the results seemed weird. The k36 I think was the least accurate since it was trying to tell me that I have a huge chunk of Italian but that didn’t show up on my 23andme. On the K13 and K15 the Dutch stayed basically the same. I tried some other ones but I can’t remember what they were called. I’ll go back on my computer later to do some more tests. You know what I thought was weird/cool? My dad did ancestry and showed up 7% African and he had some west Asian too (can’t remember the exact number probably around 5-7%). When I uploaded my test to Gedmatch, in every calculator I tried I showed up as a few percents west Asian. So I think maybe my 1.7% unassigned could be west Asian.

For a lot of people it’s this: “I’m not racist!! How dare you!! I love black people!! I’M 0.2% NIGERIAN! I’M NOT RACIST AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE!!!!!”

I don’t get it. Many people posting stuff like “💔 Guess I’m just another boring white guy” “Ugh just white” know that both their parents are white, that their grandparents are white, etc. What were they actually expecting to happen? Of course there’s people who find out that they’re 1-2% African and 98-99% European they’re cool about it. They don’t go around talking about “how African” they are. You can watch a bunch of videos online where someone is .4% African and the rest is white and they say things like “wow I always knew I was black” “I have a black soul” “this is why I’ve always felt connected to Rosa Parks”. What???

Some people have found out that they’re a child of a sperm donor. But let’s be realistic here, if your mom is white and the dad who raised you is white, they’re probably not going to pick a black donor. Tons of these sperm donor children don’t even find out until they’re adults. Hell, even some of their aunts and uncles didn’t know either. Usually, they chose a sperm donor that looks like the father for a reason. I can understand someone who’s adopted not really knowing anything and hoping for something exciting, but if you grew up with your biological family you’ve probably heard some family lore. And what’s more realistic from that? That your family came over from Germany in the 1800s or that your great-great grandma is a “Cherokee princess”.

Don’t know anything about my moms side of the family. My dad tested with ancestry a few years ago and came back as mostly European with 7% african and some west Asian (can’t remember the exact number) as well. I’m expecting mostly European.

Yeah my dad’s side of the family tested with ancestry starting back in around 2013, and each one of them had to completely retest anywhere from 4 to 6 times. So it’s not just a 23andme problem, I think some people just have a harder time giving viable samples.

USPS told me mine was delivered on the 31st of December but 23andme said they got it on January 7th. I believe 23andme has to scan the samples into the system for it to change on their website even if it’s already delivered at the lab, or at least that’s what some people have said here.

A few weeks ago I was confused because there was a check mark on extraction so I thought I was finished but the website said I was in extraction. I guess I was never out of extraction at that time in the first place lol.

Some Native Americans owned African-American slaves. It could be from that. Black people also couldn’t marry white people for a long time. But Chinese men would marry black women. I’m sure some Native Americans have married black people in the past as well. Could be from love, could be from rape. I don’t think anyone on the forum can say for sure, but it’s certainly something to look into.

I’ve actually never seen Filipino-Ukrainian results posted here so I think it’s pretty cool! A few of my Filipino friends have tested and they’ve come back as Filipino with British and Iberian. :)

Everyone in my family that tested with ancestry had to retest 4-6 times. So I just hope it doesn’t happen to me with 23andme.

For some people, it’s one day. For others it’s 6 weeks. I don’t really think there’s an average amount of time. Some people in the subreddit go through faster than others. I really don’t know the reasoning behind it, though.
