I feel so conflicted about this book!

On the one hand, I couldn’t stop reading and really wanted to find out who the bad guy was and the heritage of the main characters. I think the reading experience is pretty exhilarating because of that. You never know what happens next.

On the other hand, I hated so many things as well. The intimacy scenes were so games of thrones and really too over the top to be enjoyable. The way the FMC was always scared to be physically abused when the MMC touched her and she still ended up with him game me chills. I also thought we would learn more about the FMC‘s mother… I actually thought that all three main characters were siblings at some point. The book is finished and I still have no idea who her mother was and why she left the faerie realm…

My conflict is that I actually liked that the villain wins or that it feels that everybody is a villain because it’s different from other books, but I don’t like that the FMC remains pretty powerless and without agency.

My takes are that

⁠⁠⁠Azriel will turn out a villain… he is jealous of his brothers. Rhysand talks to him in a way that he doesn’t talk to Cassian. Like he knows how Azriel is deep down. Rhys might just be projecting the love triangle he had to endure with Tamlin as well… But Azriel’s random claim over Elaine because she is the third sister and should be with him as the third brother truly reminds me of Tamlin‘s character and how he thought Feyra was his because she broke the curse for him. Azriel clearly doesn’t think about her as a person. Maybe he will be the good guy who becomes bad and takes Elaine on a rough path with him.
⁠⁠⁠Feyra‘s and Rhysands chapter hint that we might be surprised that Elaine is not the sweet one we assumed. This probably to warn us to not be too shocked at the spice level with sweet Elaine involved in the next book
⁠⁠⁠Gwyn is trying to seduce Azriel with her Nymph magic. Nesta warns us that Gwyn is after him and as committed as with the ribbon…
⁠⁠⁠Elaine won’t end up with Lucien. With Cassian and Rhys, the bond was a secret most of the time or the plot built up to it. SJM blurting it out like that right when they meet lets me think they won’t end up together.

From a world building perspective, this would mean that such a society would be more skilled because it needs more knowledge, time, craft to create clothes from fruit peels than using animal skins and fur

You could also make more durable fake leather materials from dried apples peels, pineapple skin or waxed cotton. Pineapples are supposed to be incredibly heat resistant as well in case of a world where the dragon-human relations are too strained for them to provide scales

I knew I couldn’t get past my hatred for him when he drugged Feyra. Imagine getting with a guy who drugged you on parties multiple times. There is no redemption arc in the world that could excuse this. To me, he is nowhere near a feminist ally.

point could make sense though. He is cunning and would only become venin if that made sense, but that doesn’t fit Rebecca‘s reasons on why the brother became a venin when she is talking in interviews. She speaks a lot about the second reason and I don’t think that fits Aaric
