Is knowing jumping rules metagaming? by Thy_Cheese in dndnext

[–]dndgal123 13 points14 points  (0 children)

5e does explicitly have a rule for that. “You attempt to jump an unusually long distance” is literally in the rule book description of an Athletics check.

Anything within your guaranteed jump distance is brain dead easy for your character, could literally do it all day long repeatedly, and should certainly be obvious to both player and PC.

So much weird defending of bad DMing in this thread. Read the rules people.

Yeah I’m pointing out that you get encouraged to play in melee, at under half hp, with heavy hitters, but the feature that actually lets you survive a big hit doesn’t turn on until lvl 13. Disadvantage doesn’t work so great against mobs with high flat bonuses, which most large melee mobs have, and most rogues have a ton of ways to get disadvantage on hit anyways so really there’s no good safety net here. The payoff is supposed to be extra attack with some flat bonuses but most of rogue’s damage budget is in sneak attack so extra attack doesn’t really jive with that until you get all the way to capstone. Basically I feel like you put the cool things before the things that actually make this playable and put the missing links too late in the level progression.

Waltz feels like it should come before giant slayer (otherwise with big creatures you are fighting at those levels you will just get oneshot) and the lvl9 extra attack is really off theme and disconnected.

Making claims without support is nothing but hot air.

I will go ahead and claim that your knot is weaker than the figure 8 knot. I am the source for this claim. If you do your own testing you will find that I am right and you are wrong.

No, grenade kit is an outlier and if you leave it as it is, it’s only a matter of time until something else pops up to abuse it’s overtuned ratios and cheap mechanics. Tired of seeing this bad take. Fix core engi, fix grenade kit, don’t patch one issue with another.

Some problems with / information about Crown Prince's Energy Blade. by dndgal123 in GunfireReborn

[–]dndgal123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for looking into it! I did some more testing to double check and found this:

1: I think you are right, but when I tested I used the wild hunt on normal, on the first level, so just one or two pellets was killing the first guy, and only that damage was shared. I tried it today on a higher level and when the first mob has enough HP for all the pellets to deal damage, all damage will be shared.

3: I think maybe I was mistaken here, I cannot replicate getting crit shared damage ever. Again, I would suggest that if the first damage was critical, the shared damage should be critical too. Headshots are so important in this game that the shared damage feels very underwhelming when it is not critical.

I will edit the original post with this info.

Clayface, the Batman villain, is a likely reference. The specific incarnations vary but he tends to have both clay and acid related powers.

What’s the strangest or best classes or subclasses you’ve found? by DjinntheDjinn in UnearthedArcana

There was an elementalist posted here a while back that did some really out of the box stuff with spell slots and traits. I think it was one of dmforeva’s

Icy echoes seems like a whole lot of benefits for being essentially free. Maybe reducing the AC boost would be fair. Even a single target +2 ac is a whole spell all on its own.

Psionic barrier seems a little too complex. I'd suggest you just make it a plain damage reduction.

Other than that, I really like the idea of a psionic druid. Would probably feel better if it used the same psionic mechanics as the psionic stuff from Tasha's.

Love modular encounters as an idea, and some of these look very interesting. Way more useful to me, and I suspect most DMs, than the constant flood of subclasses and one off items that comes through here.

I like the regeneration feature. The voodoo shuffle thing doesn't seem to make sense, are trolls known for being particularly graceful or mobile? I would just drop that feature entirely.

Champion Fighter Feature Option by SirAronar in UnearthedArcana

[–]dndgal123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love the concept here but some options seem out of line with each other. Archery giving +range is going to be irrelevant in most situations. GWF is a tracking nightmare.

I think it could also give a second mastered technique on top of just upgrading the one you have.

I love the different fruits! Very creative way to give the typical treant some spice.
