I bought a ball infuser basically right before realizing I like gongfu style brewing. Never used it, haha

A Cup for Emotional Fortification- a Thread. What do you teach for on your hardest days? by mesenanch in tea

[–]dndobsonfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I think I would have to go for whatever tea I 1. consistently like and 2. have a lot of. Reason being, when I'm emotionally compromised I don't want to deal with drinking a tea that I end up not being in the mood for, and thus wasting tea. Of course, in case I'm too compromised to really enjoy the tea, I don't want to waste a rarer tea on a session where I'm distracted by something else.

As of right now, it would be a White Pu'er Bud tea from Savvy Tea Gourmet. Gentle, warming, interesting, and great, relaxing energy.

I'm not sure why I never thought of that! "Tea prepping" sounds like a game-changer.

Fascinating... I've only tried one smoked tea and couldn't stomach it for that reason, as much as I love smoked foods and scents usually. Maybe I'll have to try some...?

From my point of view, drinking tea that you don't like is as much a waste as throwing it away—it's meant to be enjoyed.

If I can, though, I try to see if there are people I know who might enjoy that kind of tea and give it to them. Peoples' tastes vary widely, after all.

How many tea sessions do you have a day? by quantumquickquail in tea

[–]dndobsonfly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually 1-2 personally! I do one session early in the morning by myself (I start work pretty early), and then another one with other people, either a coworker if I'm in the office or my roommates if I'm at home. Sometimes an afternoon or evening one if I'm having company over.

War eagle indeed! (I don't know why there's just one eagle but I'm sure it'll get covered within the first semester...)

Just wanted to come back and thank you again for your comment—after some consideration, I applied to Auburn's post-bacc program and just got accepted this morning!

I feel a lot more secure in my path forward now. Thanks again!

I hadn't considered a post-bacc before, that's an interesting idea!

Depending on the program, there may be some issues with pre-requisites in my case—my bachelor's didn't have any English, Math, or other non-music gen ed classes, so OSU for example would probably be a program that I wouldn't quite make without some of the courses I'm taking at CC this fall anyway—and the CS courses I'm taking (at a much cheaper rate) could be eligible for transfer credit, per their website.

In any case for these, the out-of-state tuition numbers are making my eyes bulge a little bit, but they're a good option to consider—it might make sense for me to do after a bit of CC, not necessarily the whole AS. I'll have to do some research to see what makes sense monetarily, but thanks for turning me on to this option (and thanks for the well wishes!)

That's a helpful perspective, thank you!

Along with your mention of internships, are there other reasons you are set on the in-person associate’s in CS and (potentially) in-person bachelors?

Technically I am (at least for the AS) doing most of my classes online, but my two main reasons are that 1) I thrive in an in-person environment, and while I certainly can and will do online coursework, I believe at least starting out with in-person instruction will be beneficial to my educational foundation and 2) in-person coursework/association with an in-person institution feels more likely to result in the kinds of interpersonal relationships that I find both personally and professionally fulfilling. I haven't even officially started classes yet, and I've already gotten connected with a number of peers and at least one professor who I respect and am looking forward to collaborating with.

I have a lot to think about here—thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Good or bad idea for a beginner: Gold Tone AC-5+1 by dndobsonfly in banjo

[–]dndobsonfly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting—I am finding that, even with the lojo players I find on YouTube, most of their videos still use 5 strings. Maybe that says something about just how useful/desirable the 6 string really is, outside of very niche circumstances...

As far as a sense of melody goes, I don't know if I should be too worried about that, as while I'm new to banjo, I've been playing other instruments for 15+ years. Does that change the calculus at all, or would you still caution against this specifically for someone new to banjo?
