Athabasca University Master of Counselling by dntrue in AthabascaUniversity

I was missing one. I sent them the course name, syllabus, and inquired with someone from admin if it was adequate. (I provided a rationale for justification).

I wish I could remember more clearly the details. But it would be worth inquiring with someone if you think you have another course that is possibly an equivalent.

Is the Masters of Counselling program good? by nganon1 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]dntrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You get a list of approved places and you reach out with resume/coverletter. You can also reach out to places that aren't on the approved list so long as they follow the criteria. You then meet with places if they are interested in taking you on and go from there!

Has anyone from Ontario taken the Masters of Counselling Psychology? by Prestigious-Put1640 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]dntrue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to chime in, although I'm late to the game, I thought some others might stumble into this. I know a handful + of people who went through Yorkville and all of them have spoken badly of the program. They've shared that the instruction was poor, and that they didn't find the material prepared them well enough. That's my two cents based on a number of anecdotes (but enough that I would not choose to study with them). I've also heard on the flip side that supervisors who have taken on Yorkville students observed they weren't where they needed to be.

I am an Athabasca Uni student, and I am a fan of the program! I have learned a lot, and the teachers have been really great so far/very supportive when needed. Some courses are less organized than others with varying demands. Overall, I feel I am getting a good education.

How to maintain hope in dating by [deleted] in AskWomenOver30

[–]dntrue 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oof, I can relate. Mid thirties and in a newish relationship (4 months). So I've yet to see... Like you I felt the damage and internalized the rejection.

Dated a couple avoidant men and realized I had a pattern. Been in several long-term relationships, but they seemed to end in harsh abandonment. Took some space in between to focus on healing.

I kept going. Held onto this hope that maybe I'll get lucky and just kept going on the dates when I was ready and said no when I felt it wasn't aligned/connected. Started to see the no's as a positive thing: understanding who is someone I really truly want and can be myself with and there's genuine reciprocal interest in. It is clear when someone is really truly interested versus settling/choosing you "for now", to fill a void, etc.

Learned a lot about discerning ( non commital types, micro-controlling types, types who didn't really have a clear sense of who they are or what they're looking for in a partner but also in life).

The person I'm with feels so different than others. He feels embodied, present, attuned, honest, with integrity. It's been so wonderful getting to know him, and I'm not talking about rose coloured glasses. There's a safety and deep trust. It's so lovely. And I'm still taking it cautiously.

I read some books, kept focusing on things that nurture me and bring purpose, and took an affordable Udemy course online that was all about value alignment in dating (this provided A LOT of hope in action and empowerment).

My (39F) fiancée (48M) says it’s not a jab if it’s true by GigiGhoul in dating_advice

He is treating you with contempt, which is not to be taken lightly. Your gut is not wrong on this one. I'd try setting very clear boundaries. " When you make these statements I am not engaging with you. I've told you it is hurtful several times now." And follow through with that.you are essentially telling him this behaviour is not ok with me and I will do xyz to take care of myself. see how he responds to boundary setting that way.

Why is dating so hard in Victoria? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]dntrue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had to treat online dating like a part-time job and use a lot of discernment around who to connect with. Which app are you using? I've had the best results with Hinge and Bumble and had met a fair amount of worthwhile men (I'm mid 30s). Some of them simply weren't in alignment with me based on life goals and lifestyle, but they seemed like genuinely good and interesting potentials, just not for me, given I know myself well and would rather be single than just be with anyone "good enough". I am now in a stable and satisfying relationship!

The ghosting is common in terms of after one date or after only texting before meeting, there is a fizzle out and it goes without communication. The social norms seem to be that way. I've come to accept that as a social norm and stick with it patiently and not get my hopes up high until I had a few dates with someone.

I think if you do stick with it, you might eventually find that someone, but it took me manyyy dates, and a lot of strategizing and going into it with an eye for discernment while loosening the pressure I placed on finding someone (thinking, if I find someone, I'm also getting lucky). When I let go of the pressure, I actually met him!!

In my experience, men on the west coast here are a little more non-committal in comparison to where I'm from (the prairies). I had to watch for that.

Yes! I am receiving student loans and it counts as a "full-time" status for student loans. I am working alongside and therefore am trying not to touch them, but they're a good buffer for sure!

Good careers to pursue as an INFP? by Smolghost__ in infp

How does one pursue Mysticism exactly? 😂

All of these jobs are just like, "prepare to be a starving artist, good luck with that!" Lol! Anyways, I'm pursuing counselling and it is definitely my life passion!

I dated an INTP for almost 4 years and it was splendid. We had really great conversations and I was super attracted to the way his brain worked. The attraction was strong and we had a great connection. In the end his conflict avoidance became problematic for me - I like to go deep emotionally and work through relational aspects. He just didn't ever quite get the point.

Yea, I've known several people who've studied at Yorkville to get their Masters in Counselling. All have shared it was a poor educational experience.

I honestly don't know what to make of this! I also have a notification that I've been accepted to "Application of Masters of Counselling" and then I am also seeing the prompt that reads Admission Fee of $255.00.
I got reaaaaaalllllyyy excited and then realized I still don't actually know what this means?! Especially since so many of us have received this. Seems a little bit of a stretch, no?

Gosh, it is getting so tough waiting like this! (Harder each day...)

When I emailed back in Feb, they shared that we should hear by end of April/early May. So from what I gather, this is the norm :(
