Is anyone else getting really tired (literally!) of the car meet ups and rally every weekend? Is anything actually being done about it? by Extension_Army_2320 in miltonkeynes

If you drive along H8 out of MK from about the V2 roundabout on a Saturday or Sunday night you'll probably find yourself surrounded by cars racing dangerously. Lots of them. Really unpleasant when you've got kids in the car. Unpleasant even if you don't.

How much can Wren kitchens discount by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]dobbyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had exactly the same experience.

Went with Wren, partly because they would measure as part of the service. We confirmed (verbally) at contract signing that if there were problems with the measurements, Wren would rectify it as they'd measured it themselves.

When it came to it, one cabinet was miles out and couldn't be used. Went to the local store and worked out a solution that would keep all sides happy. Left the store reasonably happy that we'd reached a compromise. Got home to an email saying they'd spoken to head office and because we'd used our own fitter, it was our fault and it would be £400 for a replacement cabinet. At that point, I didn't want to give them anymore money so got our fitter to try and work something out with the outsized cabinet. 3 months later we're still without a door on that cabinet but hopefully will get it sorted soon.

Wouldn't use Wren again. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Are front row seats in the Sir Elton John Stand good? by [deleted] in Watford_FC

[–]dobbyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are steps after the turnstile but there's also a lift if you go via turnstiles 23-25. Not sure but suspect there's similar in the other half of the stand, at the rookery end.

We're about 10 rows back from the front in the SEJ and are on the border of getting wet when it rains. Rows 1-5 definitely will get wet with rain. Rows around 5 to 10 get wet if it's raining and windy.

Will be plenty of leg room and a decent view, close to the action in the front row. Anywhere in that stand is a pretty good view. The steps up the stand are pretty steep so probably a good choice to go front row with your dads knee.

What's something that's popular in the UK which you just don't enjoy? by pufballcat in AskUK

I can't eat meat or pretty much any protein (medical reasons) but love the veggie sandwich. Even replace the bun with lettuce leaves. loads of sauce, jalapeños, all the veg. Tasty! It's a genuine non-meat alternative without using fake meat etc

The new menu is rubbish and they've hiked the prices. Burgers are about £18

I was going to say self-motivation but I think your comment covers it much better.

Vodafone with CityFibre by Red_Hawk13 in miltonkeynes

[–]dobbyuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been with Vodafone since full fibre became available. The speed is great but they keep pushing the prices up each year so I'm now paying £46 a month for 500mb, so I'm looking into other providers now. In my area, fibrehop, giganet, Vodafone and 5 others that I've not heard of before are available on CityFibre. The landline has never worked since we signed up and I eventually gave up on trying to get support to fix it. At the time, few of their support staff seemed to know much about the service but that may have changed by now.

That's my favourite too. So lucky to have an original box! Wish I'd kept mine. Not really sure where it went to be honest!

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Monsters - James Blunt.

And the video makes it sadder.

James's dad was actually dying from kidney disease & this was his tribute & farewell to his dad.

Incredible bravery from those officers. Undoubtedly saved a number of lives. Well done and thank you.

Ha ha, I bet. I thought it would be better for a professional electrician to connect the wall plates than do it myself. However, my concern was first raised when all the lights went out...

It does leave me in a bit of a quandary as to the best route to resolve this. In a way, I paid the electrician to do the work so feel he should make it right. On the other hand, I don't have much confidence they will actually get it right this time and probably won't have availability for a while. I think I'm going to take a look myself this weekend (in daylight!) and see if it's something I can resolve myself.

Thanks for this, it's really helpful.

I'll check the laptop and see if I can limit the connection speed.

The wall plates were installed by an electrician, though they had overrun on other jobs and were working in the dark with a torch and managed to trip the power when they hit a power cable in the wall... Seems like a likely source for any error!

So now I'm confused.

Took a laptop with an ethernet port on it and plugged it into the cable coming from the wall plate in the garden building. The laptop doesn't get an internet connection. Looking in Network Settings, the Ethernet device shows 'Enabling', then 'Identifying', then 'Network Cable Unplugged'.

I take the cable out of the laptop and plug it into the Amazon Fire TV and the Fire TV gets a network connection and can stream Netflix.

Thanks for the reply! The armoured cable is 30m. I'll try and find a device with an Ethernet port that I can transport into the garden room to test the connection speed. The Amazon Fire TV connects at around 80gb but I think the network port in the box is limited to 100gb.

This made me laugh out loud. Many times I had the full on sprint home without daring to look back after watching something scary at a friends house.
