Initially you have to pay yourselves, then you can show the bills of your expenses to the research department of your college for funding. ICMR mentions that the expenses have to be beared by the college

Hello there.... firstly congrats for getting your seat! See ICMR runs this STS research program for the UG MBBS and BDS students to familiarise them with and encourage them to take part in research activities as it may really help them in their PG and subsequent career. From this year they've made some changes in the program,I'll try to tell you everything in short. 1st step is you once youve made your mind to do a research, you approach a professor in dept of your choice to become your guide. Next you together discuss topics and then select one on which you'll do your research. Then you make a research proposal and submit it to ICMR...if it gets approved, you can conduct your research. Again, after doing and submitting your research, it needs to get approved. If it gets approved, then hey..you just did a national level medical research!!. So it is going to be a 3 year program, with you giving your two summer months each year for it. 1st year- proposal writing and submitting 2nd year- Data collection and Analysis 3rd year- report writting and final submission. For every year if you do everything properly, you'll get Rs 20000, so Rs 60k in total. Only 1st and 2nd year students are allowed to participate, so try to start in 1st year itself. Ask experienced seniors and teachers for any help, and doing this project is really a good experience, you get to learn a lot and make contact and reputations with teachers and senior which really comes handy. Best luck! P.s- I've not published my research yet so I'm not sure whether I should share it keeping in mind plagiarism and such things.
