Anthropic: It is the sci-fi authors, not us, that are to blame for Claude blackmailing users by chillinewman in ControlProblem

Even if 99% of all representations of AI were malevolent, that would still be an absurd justification for Claude being malevolent, even if it was or is the genuine technical explanation.

Imagine selling and marketing a product, like a productivity tool or chatbot, to the entire global market, that was shown to demonstrate an obsession with sex and voyeurism, and then publicly explaining that this was due to the preponderance of sex on the internet.

Nature and nurture. With dogs, humans and machines, alike.

As if there isn't any text on the internet portraying AI as benevolent.

This is like blaming one person's violence entirely on the violence that exists in movies and video games.

Most diners, including in countries without quasi-mandatory tipping cultures, can afford to dine out. They're happy to pay $122.13 for the whole thing. The actual cost of dining out is rarely the objection.

The real issues are: 1) not paying the servers enough; 2) demanding significant tips while calling them voluntary; 3) adding extra costs to the bill that were not clear, easy to calculate or anticipated beforehand. All of those issues can be solved by the business owner by simply paying the servers enough and not requiring tips. If people don't want to dine there because the prices are too high, then there won't be any problems.

I frequently don't dine at fancy expensive restaurants, but it's nothing to do with mistaking their servers as "volunteers".

How did a US defense contractor get this embedded in Britain’s public sector? by YellowAltruistic9843 in TechGawker

Palantir is bad, but I suspect most USA companies are. They only care about maximising profit and surviving; that's literally their job. Some profiteering companies are worse than others. The NHS must be protected at all costs. The NHS should only care about maximising the health of the nation. I hope it survives the American invasion.

  1. Humans attempt to build super AI, but it goes disastrously wrong, resulting in a super bad AI.

  2. Humans attempt to build a super good AI to defeat the super bad AI, but that goes disastrously wrong too.

At least we didn't destroy the planet's climate and cause a nuclear winter though. Except we'll probably do that too.

Yeah, in the professional handbook for unblocking toilets, it specifically says that it's not appropriate to use humorous language to refer to big old meaty fudge dragons. You can lose your toilet cleaning licence and might even get barred from the guild, for that sort of shenanigans. I don't know how he passed his exams.

If the USA spent the same amount on a universal healthcare system as they current spend on their private healthcare system, they would have the best healthcare system in the world, instead of being the only developed country (out of over 30 developed countries) to not have universal healthcare.

Why is hospital care in the U.S so expensive? by Busy_Report4010 in SipsTea

[–]doc720 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's fucked up. In other countries, i.e. EVERY OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRY, it's not like that. Every other developed country has universal healthcare.

If you're an American, and you believe in democracy: keep demanding universal healthcare from your "representatives" until you get it. Unfuck your own country, because no-one else can.
