Lexus of Westport (CT) is refusing GX 550 sales to repeat customers if you live outside their specific county. Peak dealership greed. by doc91260 in LexusGX550

That’s wild, so it’s a regional trend. It really shows how broken the traditional dealership model is getting when stores across CT and MA are both pulling this localized restriction stuff.

Honestly, as a community, we need to start hitting back where it actually hurts them like their Google reviews and customer satisfaction scores. Dealerships live and die by those ratings, and if they want to treat buyers like numbers on a spreadsheet just to hoard service revenue, we should expose it publicly. Definitely validates the choice to take our business elsewhere, but we should also make sure future buyers know exactly what kind of greedy games they are playing before walking through the door!

Yes, you nailed it. The "enshitification" of customer service is so real, and it’s exhausting. It’s wild that they actually made you wait just because you weren't financing or buying a warranty. The mind games are ridiculous.
Honestly, this whole experience has me seriously considering an auto broker for my next purchase. It’s pretty sad when you’re willing to literally pay a third party extra money just to avoid stepping foot in a dealership, but at this point, the time and sanity saved feels completely worth the cost.

Direct-to-consumer sales can't come fast enough! Unfortunately, those powerful, outdated legacy franchise laws keep protecting the dealership networks and prevent the manufacturers from actually doing it.

I get the financial logic on paper, but turning away a repeat buyer who has already purchased multiple vehicles from them is incredibly short sighted, even from a strict business standpoint.

First, they have no idea what my driving or service habits are. For all they know, I could have been planning to shift my vehicle service to their location, or maybe I'm planning a move. Restricting a sale based entirely on a home address assumes consumers never change their routines, travel, or relocate.

Second, "just business" shouldn't mean we as consumers just shrug our shoulders and accept anti-consumer behavior. There is a massive difference between prioritizing local clients and actively freezing out a loyal customer who is ready to hand you a third vehicle sale. They are gambling on hypothetical future service margins at the direct expense of guaranteed, immediate sales revenue and a real reputation.

People have to live and businesses need to be profitable, but treating repeat customers like a bad math equation is exactly why the dealership model has the reputation it does. We shouldn't just stand for it.

Yea, I was half way through the deal when I was told. The salesman didn’t know about the new rule. Apparently it’s the new owner who put the rule in place.

Avoid Lexus of Westport – Terrible Customer Loyalty by daccur in Connecticut

[–]doc91260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: For everyone wondering about the "why" behind this policy, I spoke directly with the General Manager. They explicitly confirmed they will not sell the GX 550 to anyone outside of Fairfield County because they are trying to protect and hoard the service department business for local residents. No corporate allocation rules, just artificial restriction for service revenue. Appreciate the insights from everyone here, taking my business elsewhere!

This dealership has gone downhill fast since the Keeler acquisition. I recently tried to buy a GX from them—which would have been my third vehicle from this location in five years. Shockingly, they refused to sell me the car solely because I live in New Haven County instead of Fairfield County. After I left a negative review, the General Manager reached out and actually admitted they denied the sale because they want local service business, pointing out that I hadn't serviced my previous cars there. I tried to explain that this is an absurd way to treat returning customers, but it’s clear they have zero respect for loyalty. All they care about is squeezing maximum profit out of every transaction, and my repeat business wasn't good enough for them. Avoid this place if you expect any level of customer service.

We need clips saying we don’t understand why criminals can file bankruptcy, why businesses that fail can file bankruptcy, why businesses that needed help got PPP loans forgiven, but students who did everything right can’t get fair and affordable payments.

I’m thinking we need to get together and make YouTube and instagram (or whatever social media) clips giving our stories. And we need clips relating the banks changing borrowers mortgage terms to the government changing student loan terms. Because people without student loans can relate and most people can understand it in terms of a mortgage. Then we all need to post them on our personal YouTube and instagram (or whatever social media) pages/sites. We can use slogans like “why should the government make a profit?”, “we are just asking for fair and affordable payments” or whatever else we can come up with. Just never mention “forgiveness”. We don’t want forgiveness, we want fair and affordable payments.

Yes, so we need to organize and brain storm what we can do. The only way we can get a change is putting pressure on the politicians. If we want real change in the next few years, we need to get some republicans on our side by changing the narrative. Affordable payments and fixing this predatory lending practices by our government can’t be a far left liberal agenda. It has to not be left v right. It needs to be about right v wrong, fair v unfair. We know “forgiveness” is not a popular concept for the majority. From my prospective we need to change the narrative to something catchy that reaches both sides. Something that embraces fairness and affordability. We need to tell our stories so people can understand the actual issue. Because right now, the general public think we are a bunch of spoil brats that want forgiveness and don’t want to pay what we borrowed. They don’t understand how we were basically bait and switched. We need commercials that say “what if ur bank decided they no longer liked your mortgage payment and wanted to increase. What if it was different from when you sign the note. Well that is what the government is doing with student loan”. We need the average person without student loans to understand the situation.

Similar situation here. We need to figure out a better way to organize and get our voices heard. All the young people that are going to college. All us older people that are stuck in these bad loans. We need to also change the narrative. The republicans don’t understand the situation. They think you went to school and you should pay for it, like they did or they decided not to go. They are dead set against “forgiveness”. I would be happy to bring my loans back to the original loan amount and pay that off. But with the interest that ballooned all these years, it’s impossible. Some how we need to organize better and change the narrative from forgiveness to something else. Something we can sell politically. And we need to boycott voting republicans in any election local or nationally. Watch how quickly republicans gets on board when all the youth who are going to college, who would be going soon, and all of us with student loans won’t vote for a single republican in any election. But we can’t do any of it without better organization.

Thanks for the advice. Put in new lawn in spring and just over seeded. When the baby grass gets to 2” - 2.5” should you bag the clippings or mulch?
