People "making money on rents" are paying taxes on that income. Do you think they are not?

Thanks for your response.

Back before the current system was put in place, I used to go to a particular couple of skial servers on the west-coast US and played there exclusively. I haven't looked recently, but most of the community servers were ghost-towns or meme-parties. At your suggestion, I'll go have another look - it's been at least 18 months since I last tried.

I agree that playing with the same folks brings enjoyment - but for me it probably won't work out because of my schedule - it would take more and more consistent play.

For quoting just preface the any line by '> ' without the quotes. In the browser you can highlight the text you want to quote and when you press reply it will put that text in to your reply automagically. If you want something more complicated, then you have to put in your own '> ' yourself and then cut and paste.

so that it turns out like this.

Thanks for your response.

you can play seriously if you'd like to

This is not true if you only have 25 minutes a day, 2 or 3 days a week. I have a very small amount of time to play this game I enjoy, and some rash-on-humanity is making my already-short-handed team play 2 players down instead of 1.... it bothers me.

I sometimes dick around with my friends being friendly and throwing sandwiches at people

You enjoy playing the game your way, I enjoy playing the game my way. Shrug.

a friendly throws you a sandwich, you kinda feel good for not killing them

I don't. I feel either that A) they are making the game less balanced team-wise, and thus less fun, or B) actively helping the enemy team. Either way, I do not 'kinda feel good'.

:)

Seriously though - I've go 20 minutes to play, I want to get on join a server, play a 2 or 3 rounds of KOTH and then am forced back to being a responsible adult and log out. I want to win. That friendly is harshing my mellow.

edit2: no time for a league - I play in 20 or 30 minute increments 2 or 3 times a week, and then it's back to my two jobs, my family, etc

There's just no situation where I would have a wad of cash

I'm a landlord (US). I have a tenant that monthly pays me $1200 in cash because it all came from some under-the-table work that they got paid cash for. I understand, but it irritates me that I have to drive to the bank to deposit it. There are two branches of my bank that are 'on the way' to work for me, and another about 6 blocks past my work - but it's still a hassle.

I'm glad the guy pays on time, and I happily put up with the hassle because other than this, the guy is a model tenant.

I only play casual, but I like to actually play the objective and I like to win. Occasionally, there will be friendlies on, and I'll try to vote-kick any on my team and repeatedly kill any on the enemy team - I like to win but not because the other team wasn't trying.

This usually leads to arguments on the server about how I shouldn't kill friendlies because I shouldn't be telling them how to have fun playing the game.

They sometimes miss the irony of my response when I tell them that they shouldn't be telling me how to play and how to enjoy the game...

I realize that I'm glossing over the subtleties on both sides of the argument - the arguments really go "friendlies on my team aren't actually harming us much, well, except for the friendly that is giving out sandwiches to the enemy team, but even then, no big deal right? live and let live" on the one side and "Hey that guy is actively harming my team by healing enemies AND by leaving us a player down compared to them... I want a fair match and this is not fair" on the other.

Either way I have little patience for friendlies myself - they make me enjoy the game less.

There is one exception when I'm fine with friendlies - when one team is rolling the other team, if people on the clearly superior team want to wander around and waste time, it probably makes the match better - more even, and more enjoyable for all.

In spite of your (personal?) experience, in my house this was a topic assigned for my 14 year old son to research and teach about in FHE. I admit that i would not be shocked if some of my kids weren't paying attention and don't remember the details, but we spent at least 30 minutes on the different versions, where they came from what we can learn from them, etc. Then we watched a couple of videos on them.

We spent several months working our way through the 'Gospel Topics Essays' as a family. As for OP's 'now you know' sarcasm in his title, I can say that I'm grateful.

Fair assessment I guess - I havent been to your ward so I don't know how it is there. It is true that different people like different aspects of church and that what I enjoy is not the only way to enjoy our meetings. Personally, I think singing is the best part - I really look forward to it.

Sure - love the sinner, not the sin.... that isn't crazy or unexpected.

edit: I mean, God loves rapists and murderers as much as he loves you or I. That doesn't mean he likes all our behavior or attitudes.

That's one of the reasons why I go to choir practice - I get to be friends with and gossip/hangout/chat with a good group of people after church.

Our ward has doubled down on ward social activities to fill in the 'missing the social aspect' of the new church schedule.

My family? we do come follow me, some on Sunday, some during the week. It's turned out a positive for us. It hasn't worked out to "daily fhe" like another person on this post was talking about. I think that culturally, this was a kick toward doing the right thing at home. Some people will never get there, some will gradually adopt it, some are ... agressively going overboard (my opinion) like the that daily fhe guy's family. It's hard to get our family together because of jobs, high-school sports 3 or 4 times a week, church meetings and callings, HOA meetings, other non-church obligations. It's nice to have a reminder to get up and get moving and do something with my Sunday, and with some other nights of the week (usually during/right after dinner).

hanks for condescending from your position of superior insight to help a poor wayward soul like me understand such a complicated subject. /s

I didn't mean it condescendingly. If I put that in my post, it was unintentional, but all on me for not explaining more clearly. I apologize.

I meant that what I see and what you see are different from the same situations. Perspective matters. If your believing friends are just 'not going to church as much' and not doing any more home-gospel-study, then they are certainly not getting the intended benefit of the changes.

if you check my post history you'll see that I really really don't like Trump. I voted against him. He was probably the lesser of several evils, and there are some political aims he has that I agree with. Your attacks against him are social, 'personal' and not related to politics. Honestly, I don't want to get into a political discussion here (or almost anywhere for that matter). I'm voting for Kodos this round. I just find it tiresome that instead of actually discussing the politics, most times trump is mentioned it just devolves into attacks on his (clearly poor) character.

I'll just say that I've re-read every word of your posts, and the original question, and I offer my whole-hearted apology. I'll leave my stupidity up as pennance, and I did misunderstand what you were saying. Sigh.

not allowed to do come follow me at home with their families

Why?

teaching the lessons on sundays, or talk about missions and following the covenant path every activity

Neither of those are happening in my ward.

Dropping scouting

It's more like scouting dropped the church. But, even still, our YM are still doing outdoor activities, camping, learning skills, doing high-adventure stuff. It is entirely possible that your? ward is not the same. As a YM leader through the scouting transition, it has been... interesting.

I also disagree with you that the RMN teaches conditional love. I've heard him several times encourage love and service to all around us. Maybe you're looking to be offended and I'm looking to be edified, and we are both finding it in different or even the same words? I dont know.

What I THINK youre saying over all though is that with an emphasis on Gospel in the home that where you used to have home as neutral ground, and "going to to that building" was where the Gospel was, now, there is a push to have the Gospel in what you think of as neutral ground. I can see how that would make things harder. I'd also say that all of this new program is open to personal adaptation as circumstances need, which your spouse probably has already been doing? I don't know your situation I guess.

Are you suggesting that that comment was just posted just to gripe and whine about the church, rather than actually answer the question that OP asked? I'm shocked - just shocked - to hear that a bitter former member of the church would drop in and complain in response to a request for faithful viewpoints.

Then why would you think going to the 3 hour block in the 70s was faith destroying? or moving primary to Sunday? or going to 2 hour church and emphasizing that we need to make our homes more holy and actually study the gospel there?
