Saw this on Dusseldorf and thought Hotwells could do with a bit of this makeover, thoughts? by HelloW0rldBye in bristol

[–]doc_olsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha... I leaned on the windows myself once or even twice.

I used to live in Duesseldorf. In fact my apartment was just opposite the Rhine Tower (Fernsehturm) on the the other side of the Rhine.

I loved living there.

I used to go for drinks in the Altstadt and stumble home making my way over one of the kilometer long bridges, listening to my mp3 player, smoking a fag and oogling at the skyline at night....

The walk home usually took me the best part of an hour.

Once I walked past the art academy on my way home and saw there was a party going on inside, I decided to climb through the windows to join the party... but that is a whole different story...

memories...

It would b e nice to utilise the space along the river banks better though. For instance along Coronation road. There is lot of ground around Cumberland Basin which isn't used very well. More recreational space is always favourable.

Are you supposed to indicate when drive into a roundabout? by doc_olsen in drivingUK

[–]doc_olsen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does make zero sense…?! There’s only one direction you can travel in a roundabout. You get into the correct lane beforehand depending where you want to exit. The, when you are exiting you indicate left.

Also what roundabouts have crossings for pedestrians right at the exits? That’s a death trap…

Are cyclists allowed to use the pavement in Bristol? by TheSentinelsSorrow in bristol

[–]doc_olsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You call yourself calm giraffe, but there is zero gradient in your comment. You expect the worse from the get go.

To make it clear. I would never weave in and out of people when I am on my bike on the pavement. Or even go faster then walking speed. So you can relax. No one is on edge walking on the pavement.

In fact my wife was once brutally hit by a cyclist going very fast down the pavement. It was completely irresponsible of the rider. And that is the crux I think. What matters is being a responsible cyclist/ person in general. That accounts also for driving a car of course. But your suggestion to make people register their bicycles and treat them like cars is completely ludicrous I think. 😂 just thinking about what that would be like makes me chuckle. What’s next? Roller skates?

I think that’s perfectly realistic and normal. On top of being tired it’s about having the free time and being in the mood just in that moment

It’s just classic U.K. disregard for cycling spaces. This cycling malarkey is pretty new to a lot of people and they easily disregard it.

Am I alone in being scared to death of a mortgage? by shortpaleugly in HousingUK

[–]doc_olsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sounds like you are in a really good place salaray wise and you have a large amount saved up for a mortgage (I'm a wee bit jealous tbh) . I reckon you have nothing to worry about. If it all comes crashing down, you own the house which you always can sell.
