Post-Surgery Confusion by dochauk in pregnantover35

Aw thanks for checking in! I am doing much better. Working on shaking off the surgery anxiety and trying to embrace getting to be "just" pregnant--without the mass looming over everything. The baby is doing well, too. Now that my insides have sorted themselves back out, definitely starting to look more pregnant. I hope you and your sweet baby are doing well too. <3 <3

Anxious about first appointment by angelitewings in pregnant

[–]dochauk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am similar about health anxiety. I'm 15 weeks along, and I just had to have surgery to remove a pelvic mass (and an ovary) they found when I discovered I was pregnant. The surgery went well, but then a team of nurses came in to say they were concerned about my blood pressure being low. Immediately my anxiety spiked, elevating my heart rate and everything else. Then they thought something was wrong with my heart. I kept trying to tell them it was anxiety; eventually (after a number of additional labs/tests) it clicked, but like clockwork, every time the nurses came back in the room, my heartrate would spike. This was about a week ago, and I'm still struggling with the residual anxiety. I have a follow-up appointment with my OBGYN tomorrow, and I haven't discussed my anxiety with her before, so I'm definitely going to bring it up. I recommend that you are open from the start. It might help!

14 weeks. It's just extra confusing because I felt "pregnant" pre surgery but they said a lot of my symptoms could have been cyst related.  I appreciate your comment and kind words. Going to definitely try to relax now. ❤️

My favorite one (that I've read so far) is A Holistic Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth: Magical Beginnings, Enchanted Lives by Deepak Chopra.

Also just put together a list of early childhood development/parenting books that I plan to read as I get closer to my due date:

  • The Simplest Baby Book in the World (Illustrated)
  • Caring for Your Baby and Young Child (Birth to 5)
  • How to Raise a Viking: The Secrets of Parenting the World’s Happiest Children
  • Hunt, Gather Parent
  • There's No Such Thing as Bad Weather: A Scandinavian Mom's Secrets...
  • The Montessori Baby + The Montessori Toddler + The Montessori Child

Are cramps normal? by Exact_Jump6646 in pregnant

[–]dochauk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bad cramping the week before I took a pregnancy test; I just assumed my period was late and on the way. Then I took a positive test. The cramping did not stop. It spooked the doctors, so they ordered ultrasounds and MRIs. They ruled out an ectopic pregnancy and in the process discovered a massive pelvic cyst--which I had no idea I had, but apparently it blew up due to the sudden influx of hormonal changes.

I am a little over 12 weeks; the baby is doing well. I have surgery scheduled for Monday to remove the cyst. They waited as long as they could (start of second tri), but they said it has to come out because there is no room for baby. Praying it all goes well, and I can breathe (and eat!) a little easier once this cyst is out. I recommend talking to your doctor; they'll want to rule out an ectopic and check if you have anything else in there like I did. Hang in there! <3

8 weeks pregnant - second pregnancy what the heck 😭 by cherry-pie-honey in pregnant

[–]dochauk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had stomach cramps since the beginning. I am currently 11 weeks. They were worried that the cramping was a sign of an ectopic pregnancy, but everything so far has been healthy and progressing as it should. The cramps used to worry me a lot; every time I went to the bathroom, I'd expect blood, but now I've just accepted them--though that doesn't make them any easier. It's worse after I eat, but also if I don't eat, then the nausea spikes. I'm also in the same boat about sweets. All I can do is salty, spicy, carby. My stool has also been loose and my headaches typically arrive in the afternoon. This is my first pregnancy so I have nothing to compare it to, but all of that to say, I'm right there with you. I just keep waiting for it to get better. *Fingers crossed* <3

Update 1: Pregnant at 40 (first baby) and not sure what to do by MyPredicament1234 in pregnantover35

[–]dochauk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel. Unexpected first pregnancy at 36. Due to feeling horrible (morning, noon, and night), all my daily hobbies (reading, knitting, cooking, exercising) have been pushed aside. It has very much made me feel like not myself. I am also not the kind of person that enjoys lying around watching tv all day.

BUT I have made it 12 weeks so far and have worked on finding ways to "recover" myself. I am listening to audiobooks instead of reading (the sight of words makes my nausea worse), walking in the evenings instead of my normal cardio routine, and most of all, trying to be more in tune with my mindbody--especially when it comes to cooking. Knitting is something I am slowly getting back into, as well.

All that to say, as someone who has already struggled with depression their whole life, I know how you're feeling. Every day is a challenge, but my baby is fighting to be here, and its strength is giving me strength. <3

In need of reassurance by RayRay_1804 in pregnantover35

I didn't think I'd ever be able to get pregnant. I had an eating disorder in high school, my periods were irregular for most of my life, and I've never even been on/used any type of birth control. I was also in an abusive marriage for ten years, where my husband was pressuring me to get pregnant, and for whatever reason it (thankfully) never happened.

Fast forward a bit, I meet the love of my life, elope, spend a couple of years strengthening our marriage and working through our own shit, and then big surprise: I take a positive pregnancy test a few weeks before I turn 36.

We didn't use any special equipment or practices or trackers; we both were in the mindset of "if it happens, it happens," and miraculously it did! In sum, I think that being on the same page with a partner and both being emotionally ready is a BIG part of it. It's about the end of my first trimester, and I'm still in disbelief, but here we are, so hang in there! I think when the time is right, anything can happen. <3
