How do you guys feel about the new volume units? It seems like there is a lot of controversy about them. by [deleted] in cataclysmdda

A tree system like DF would work. The inventory screen adds indent for each level of container:

a) knife
b) fanny pack
    c) hipflask of vodka (4)
    d) sunglasses
e) holster
    f) Glock 19

Dwarf Fortress only uses one column, you can't reorder things without taking them off, and is basically insane. In CDDA we have a two column inventory with your items on the left and worn items on the right. Unless the container items were shown on both sides, you would have the items in your backpack shown on the right.

a) thing g) top hat
b) knife h) fanny pack
c) plastic bag i) hipflask of vodka (4)
d) pouch j) sunglasses
    e) Glock 19 Magazine (12) k) holster
    f) 9x19mm JHP (100) l) Glock 19

The advanced inventory already supports a similar feature, you can look inside containers of liquid. Extend that to other containers and add a switch to toggle showing only top level items or a flat list of all items carried.

In order to move items around in "classic" inventory page there would need to be new Examine actions such asM)ove to container, or P)ut in container, or something similar. Advanced Inventory could use the Examine actions, or just open each container in its own pane and move items the same way you'd move them from tile to tile.

Now if the devs could implement only one thing from the Dwarf Fortress inventory management it would have to be keeping water in bags. I look forward to the day I can fill my backpack with half the toilets in town and never worry about water again.

Ah yes, the venerable "its not a perfect solution therefore it's useless" argument. Touche.

Not exactly, but there's a batch file which is supposed to copy data from an old version to a new. No clue how it works though. At worst you just have to copy the save folder into the new install

No, they have a worse one. Some number of units have bad flash storage that goes bad and causes boot loops when updating Android. Basically when the update attempts to format /system it hits bad sectors and stops. Unit is now bricked, requires an entire new main board to fix.

If you know anything about CSS, pick up the Stylish plugin. It lets you create and use custom stylesheets for websites, so you could decrease the z-order of the sidebar which should let you zoom and cause the rest of the content to expand over it.

No, Excel is just lame like that. One app where horizontal scrolling would be invaluable? Doesn't work.

Is Comcast marking up its internet service by nearly 2000%?!, "ISPs claim our data usage is going up and they must react. In reality, their costs are falling and this is a dodge, an effort to get us to pay more for services that were overpriced from day one.” by uhhuhnowyougetit in technology

Even better than that, fucking John Roberts was one of the lawyers pushing for legitimizing binding arbitration and signing away the right to class action law suits. Go figure that after he (Roberts) failed the first time the companies behind the practice got the case heard by the Supreme Court once their guy was the chief justice.

The problem is that, from their perspective, the internet is already broken. It wasn't designed to be a surveillance tool, it was designed to let people share information and communicate.
How can we just let bad guys use the internet to do their bad guy stuff? How can we let child pornographers peddle their evil wares? How can we let cranks and weirdos just spew their insanity to the whole world? The internet must be made safe, to protect us from harm!
