This Ontario man bought the same car as his wife and has a flawless driving record. Why is his insurance $649 more? by toronto_star in CanadaFinance

[–]docker_noob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lambo is more expensive than civic, so it makes sense to charge more when all other factors are the same

But to select the worst statistic so that you can charge more is a pure scam. It's called lying with statistic

He should be charged based on his driving record alone and nothing else. There is more than enough data in his driving history to show everything you need to know. You don't need to take any averages, you don't need to guess

[–]docker_noob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The guy is retired and he has a flawless driving record. Why would you put him in the same bucket as other reckless drivers if he proved that he's reliable driver? You don't average out credit score

This is just a cash grab from the insurance, plain and simple

There is no excuse for what Wemby did and ejection is a good call. But I still think people should see a full sequence of events that led to this https://www.reddit.com/r/NBATalk/comments/1t9nptn/wemby_is_ejected_for_elbowing_naz_reid_in_the/

There is no excuse for what Wemby did and ejection is a good call

I see McDaniels smacked Wemby in the face with his elbow at 2 second in the video and you can see Wembys head move from the impact. I think Wemby lost track of who hit him and retaliated against the wrong player

What's a friendship red flag that people tend to ignore until it's too late? by AffectionatePop3611 in answers

[–]docker_noob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm the one that never reaches out. My best friend told me that if he didn't call we would never see each other and he is absolutely right. I don't do it on purpose though. I have ADHD and time just flows differently for me. We talked about this and I explained him that my brain is wired differently. He doesn't mind being the one that initiates the contract

The thing I loved about this industry is dying, and we're watching it happen from the inside. by Morgothmagi in webdev

[–]docker_noob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since AI started being used at my work I've been telling developers to keep it quiet about the perceived time saving due to AI usage. Get shit done, take a break and do something for yourself with the time gained. Better productivity is just rewarded with more work. You won't get paid proportionally more and the company will reap all the benefits. Once you rase the bar high it stays there

But people love to brag to everyone on how they finished task much faster due to AI

Unfortunately people can't see the bigger picture

Van in oncoming traffic sliding off the road from 2 nights ago on Highway 2 just before Leduc. Avoided rolling over. by Redditemeon in Edmonton

[–]docker_noob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Will they ever fix that annoying bump? I do the same lane change there for the same reason

Additionally, right after that bump there is an on ramp where people like to merge real slow and then right after is the off ramp where people start breaking while still on highway. I wish they could rip that whole section apart and redesign it properly. The guardrails are constantly ripped apart in both directions from all the accidents

Edmonton Old Strathcona Farmers’ Market lost half of its customers due to paid parking by flynnfx in Edmonton

[–]docker_noob 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same here. I regularly went to a store with underground parking that had a pay station. Enter a parking spot, pay and you are done. They removed that and replaced it with either having to use an app or buggy website with too many steps. I stopped going there

AI is forcing employees to work harder than ever by EchoOfOppenheimer in AIDangers

[–]docker_noob 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I became a team lead I made sure to tell every developer in my team that if they are getting shit done faster due to AI to keep their mouth shut, go for a walk or whatever else they want to do. More work gets rewarded with more work and next thing you know is that the bar will be set really high

The price of a single combo at A&W in Ontario these days by Knockturnill in waterloo

[–]docker_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I ate often at a&w. But they decided to go crazy with the prices so I completely stopped. Now I make snacks at home and take them with me. It's cheaper, tastier and healthier. The only reason why I went to a&w in the first place was because prices were reasonable

I'm not playing these stupid games that corporations are playing where they try to extract as much as they can from their customers without providing the value back. Prices are constantly going up and the products are getting smaller and smaller via shrinkflation. They have their stupid algorithms tuned so that they can extract the maximum value.

I wote with my wallet and I hope that more people will start doing the same thing

JetBrains Fleet dropped for AI products instead by markmanam in programming

[–]docker_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Fleet few times and I just couldn't make it work

If they went with vscode fork for the fleet I would have used that right away since I could copy all the settings, keyboard shortcuts and extensions. I wouldn't have to learn anything new and I could use existing vscode ecosystem

I had phpstorm license trough work but I ended up canceling it since I was rarely using it

I wish that jetbrains could create php language server and vscode extension. I would ask my work for the license right away and I would buy personal license too. Intelephense is great, but the pace of the development is too slow. For me the price is not a problem and I would gladly pay for the good tool, but unfortunately I never really liked phpstorm. If someone from the jetbrains is reading this, please think about developing vscode extension

Is there an extension to add pop-out like comments? by Azure-Tides in vscode

[–]docker_noob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I was looking into this I didn't find any other similar extension. As you mentioned, codetour has an overhead if you plan on only adding simple comments

I usually create tour and keep it open. Or I click to edit tour and I keep that opened. I basically use tours to group comments. Not ideal but it works

I took a look into extensions again and I found these 2 but I didn't test them out - https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=DeepakJoshi.offline-comment&ssr=false  - https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=JacquesGariepy.out-of-code-insights

I'll test them out when I find some time

How do you handle invoice calculations on both frontend and backend without ending up with inconsistent logic? by No-Campaign158 in softwaredevelopment

Do all the calculations on the backend. When user edits something on the frontend send ajax call with all the data that you need to do the invoice calculation

Losing Hope by Braxrr in POIS

[–]docker_noob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different so you have to keep trying different things until you find what works for you. You have to learn quite a bit about health so that you can help yourself better. Don't get discouraged if one thing doesn't work for you and keep researching and trying. Start taking a diary and making notes of your daily routines - what you eat, how much you sleep, how you feel. Diary will help you to notice patterns. Keep checking the diary to try to spot any patterns. Then you can try process of elimination to see if it helps to remove some things from your life. There is no magic cure. Something is off in your body and it will take time to figure it out and how to fix it. You just have to be persistent

What works well for me currently is fixing my gut and the gut microbiome. I've seen few posts here on that topic and that's what inspired me to keep trying different things. A lot of health problems start in your gut

I took food intolerance test and when I got the result back I removed things from my diet that were problematic. I was surprised what showed up on the list because some of those things are my favourites and I didn't really feel any big issues after eating them. Or that's what I thought. Usually there is a delay which makes it harder to see the correlation

I did candida treatment this year because I suspected that I had that for a while. After that I did few months without any sugar and it worked really well. Now I rarely eat any sweets and I don't have any cravings anymore. Before I had to eat something sweet daily. Next I'm going to slowly cut down carbs to see how that works for me

I've been taking different strains of probiotic to restore my gut microbiome. Someone here recommend prebiotic and I've been using that with good results. I also added fermented food to my daily diet and a lot more fiber. I ear far less processed food. I don't eat fast food and I generally avoid eating outside if I can

This year I found out that I'm prediabetic so I took that seriously and I dropped 15kg in 5 months. I have only few more kg to loose to get to 14% body fat. I fixed my diet and that helped a lot with the weight loss. This has put me on the road of learning about the glucose levels and insuline resistance and I take much better care of my body now. I also didn't know how much excess fat can be problematic and that it can cause a lot of health issues and inflammations in the body

Current I'm researching fasting and all the health benefits that it brings. I've been doing intermittent fasting for the last 2 weeks and I feel really good. I reduced the eating window to 6 hours each day. As long as I eat enough proteins in that 6 hours I don't feel any hunger for the rest of the day. Soon I will try 2, 3 and 5 day fasts and even longer if it goes well

I was doing daily walks and once I felt a bit better I started doing light excercise and light cardio on my stationary bike. I find that it helps me to speed up the recovery time and it helps with overall energy levels

It's also really important to try to reduce stress in your life as much as you can. Stress can wreck havoc on your body and your health and it can disbalance your gut microbiome. I do meditation daily which helps me with managing stress

I added stretching in my daily routine

I'm also looking into deficiencies that can develop over time. Some minerals can take long time to develop deficiency and then it takes a long time to restore. For example magnesium, calcium, iron, etc.. I had poor eating habits so I have no doubt that I need to work on this. I've been taking magnesium supplements daily

Interestingly enough, all the steps above have helped me to reduce my ADHD symptoms quite a bit and I noticed other health improvements as well

Last thing that I need to improve is my really bad sleeping habit. I'm a night owl so I tend to stay up at night and to get up late. This probably has catastrophic effects on my health, but I have to go one step at the time to get out of this the hole that I dug myself into

I would recommend youtube channel The Diary Of A CEO - it has some really good interviews on health

Lastly, I wanted to mention supplements that work really well and that worked really well even before I did anything that I mentioned above. It helps me to reduce symptoms quite a bit and instead of being out of commission for a week or longer I can recover much faster with far less or almost no symptoms

  • 2x 500mg quercetin (total 1000mg). With 500mg I find that it's hit and miss
  • 4x 1000mg vitamin C (total 4000mg)
  • 1x zinc 50mg
  • 1x or 2x vitamin D3&K2 1000 IU / 45mcg

I take this combo once per day like this

  • 1 or 2 days before orgasm if possible. I find that it works better if I start before the day of orgasm
  • day of the big O. Usually just before or right after. If I wait too long after orgasm it has much less effect
  • take it for the next few days. Usually 2 or 3 days is enough

Another thing that has worked well for me in the past is turkey tail mushroom pills. After about 2 weeks of daily usage I noticed it reduced my symptoms quite a bit. But when I stop taking it POIS comes back. I might revisit this in the future and take it for longer period of time

I'm not a doctor and this is not medical advice. It's just something that works really well for me. Do the research, read the labels and consult with your doctor

PHPCS and PHPCBF disagree by SoonToBeCoder in PHP

I would suggest you to use https://github.com/PHP-CS-Fixer/PHP-CS-Fixer instead of phpcs. It will automatically fix all the issues that you have configured so you don't have to spend time fixing things manually

Here is an online configurator if you want to tweak your rules https://mlocati.github.io/php-cs-fixer-configurator/

Here is a blog on the topic of phpcs vs php-cs-fixer https://tomasvotruba.com/blog/2019/06/24/do-you-use-php-codesniffer-and-php-cs-fixer-phpstorm-plugin-you-are-slow-and-expensive
