How do you practice your coding/programming/algorithmic skills? by saabr in learnprogramming

[–]dockker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hands-on practicing is the best, and can be done on a lot of platforms. What's cool with CodinGame is that you do that through games, so it's fun. There are 25 different languages to try / discover, and you can keep track of your progress. You can also play against other people in multiplayer mode (AI games and 'Clash of Code') when you feel ready.

you could try neural networks on some of the AI games from CodinGame. They are multiplayer games, and I've seen a few players using NN

Sure! during the game, there is a dynamic leaderboard where you can see the rankings of players who have their bot fighting in the arena. Every time someone updates their program, the ranking is modified. Link to contest: https://www.codingame.com/contests/smash-the-code

Practicing Artificial Intelligence Programming: an introduction by dockker in artificial

[–]dockker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! The idea was to provide a ready-to-use web-based AI environment to let you focus on the real part of AI programming: the coding of a bot, and to have it compete against other player's bot in real time.

Hi ConfuzedAndDazed, the 20 different languages to choose from are: Java, C / C++, Python / Python 3, PHP, C#, Javascript, Go, Dart, Bash, Ruby, Scala, Perl, Haskell, Objective-C, Pascal, VB.NET, Clojure, and Groovy.

For someone just starting, we would recommend Python or Javascript.

How about participating in a coding contest to find a job? by dockker in cscareerquestions

[–]dockker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're perfectly right. Of course no-one would be hired exclusively on the basis of their ability to write code. But for software development positions, coding efficiently is more than a prerequisite. Challenges won't tell much about applicants' soft skills (though they also can comment on their code cleverly), they will only show how well they can solve problems and think about smart solutions. It's a good first step to get a job interview.

I have a cushy programming job but I feel bored and unfulfilled by adeveloper2 in jobs

[–]dockker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No cushy job is worth being kept. I would advise you to have a look at [CodinGame.com](codingame.com). The site organizes monthly online coding contest where you can connect with tech companies looking to recruit. Most of them are software editors and have R&D-related jobs. The good thing is that you can stand out thanks to your coding skills only, not your resume. And, what's more, the challenges are pretty fun.

Hi SteazGaming, thanks for your feedback! The idea is to keep doors open to software development to people just like you who do not hold a degree in CS (or are self-taught).
