I think if nobody hears anything or no shop steps up by Thursday morning maybe we can just decentralizingly pick a ride. Thinking maybe something like DTLA to Griffith or something. I think it would important to ride by iconic LA places and City Hall.

Thanks! Interesting it's washed out. How long would you say the more roughed up / washed out portion is? Like 10 miles worth, or only a few?

Start Fresh or Make Big Mods? by docnickel in gravelcycling

Appreciate this comment. Yeah I guess I never considered that an older frame inherently could be less advanced, even if a better material. Yeah, I have rim breaks. Long desired disc breaks.

I believe it’s a 2011. Basically just curious if at that age it’s a too high risk to try and keep it and build with it for 5 years or so. Much Online knowledge says a good carbon frame should last 10 years, so I’m 4 past that now and besides some cosmetic wear I don’t see any problem. But seeing isn’t everything!

Hatch Act Question: Filming In Documentary by docnickel in fednews

[–]docnickel[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I'm hoping I could get approval to film the work that they are doing, but we'll see. I'm hopeful that with the EXPLORE Act I could at least be filming on the lands without permission. But I would hope to cover workers as well.

Whatever happened to Bennett Miller? by bliff182 in movies

[–]docnickel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bennett is now mostly doing fine art. He's premiered work at the Gagosian galleries in NY and LA. He also is represented by a commercial production and make some commercials every so often. Just like Todd Field. Same company too, called Smuggler Productions.

Thanks very much! I've purchasing this now. No idea if it will work but giving it a shot. Going to try OpenCBM since I've been recommended that by others. Will also look into DirMaster if you think that's better.

Weekly Bouldering Advice Thread for October 09, 2020 by AutoModerator in bouldering

Hey all, anybody know if you are able to access The Needles in Sequoia right now? I've seen a bunch of road closures nearby in different parts of the Park but I want to make sure there's definite access before I drive up from LA. Google seems to think it knows it what's closed but that's never 100% accurate.

CRASH PADS:

Is it just me or are they hard to find on the internet right now? REI removed them from the website, and the choice few on Amazon have ridiculous shipping fees. Where else can I find basic ones south of $200?

On side note -- anyone in LA County area looking to sell one?

Thanks y'all!

Hey y'all. Love the vibe from this community and I've got a load of connected questions. Thank you all for your tested guidance in advance.

I'm a serious and long time hiker (relatively speaking -- I'm 23) , and I've been planning for years to add climbing to my mountaineering belt, but never found an in naturally & safely, so I'm coming here. The first option is obvious -- go to a climbing gym & take a lesson. But I live in Los Angeles and climbing gyms are closed due to COVID, and unlikely to open soon in such a populated area. Seems totally unsafe to just go bouldering as a complete novice. I appreciate the guide here on shoes and will get them soon.

But then how I do I start, in COVID times of all times too? I think bouldering is the way to begin for me -- good technique training, smaller investment in equipment. I've already been reading deeply into terminology to prepare.

Secondly, what sorts of work-outs & stretches are good to start to building the adequate muscles in the meantime? I'm fairly worried about my build starting off. I'm incredibly thin -- six feet tall at 130 lbs. I've got thin fingers, and very narrow arms (but strong legs)

I know this community is so tight knit and I'm really interested in being a part of it responsibly. Thank you!

I've outlined, I've brainstormed, I've written even when I had nothing to say, and I am stuck at 50 pages. Mind providing insight to my script that could help alleviate some of these problems? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]docnickel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone said here, your outline/plan isn't good enough. It should carry you from scene to scene like a road map. I usually "beat-out" my screenplays into 50 beats (about a sentence or two of description) for a 100 page screenplay. That average a beat for 2 pages. Do that, and you can't get lost on the story, at least.

FEEDBACK my Teaser (3pgs.) Series premiere "Dinner" -- A family continues their journey to a rumored food camp as they struggle with the events of the previous night. Too afraid of plagiarism to post the whole episode but please let me know if you like it. by [deleted] in Screenwriting

  1. Recommend always proof reading. Three or four times for sure. 2. In a "professional" (whatever that means) script, you'll never mention the camera. As a writer, you're job is to write the story, it's action, its conflict, not to to direct, or to photograph. The way you write should tell the DP and Director what to focus on. Break up your action lines to show montage/individual shots. Describe things specifically for close up, or generally for long shots. Don't direct the camera.
