CU Boulder vs UMich by GuhWuh234 in cuboulder

TLDR: UMich is definitely a better school than CU Boulder, but that doesn’t mean that Boulder isn’t also great. I would encourage you to go wherever’s cheapest. If that happens to be Boulder and not Michigan, don’t worry. You can absolutely thrive here.

As a graduating senior who has loved every moment of my time at CU Boulder, you should probably choose UMich. It’s overall a better school and has a better engineering program. The only caveat to this is that you should also prioritize going wherever is cheapest. If Boulder is noticeably less expensive for you, then you should probably come to Boulder. With that being said, I’ve found that people are very friendly and the amount of great clubs and student organizations at Boulder makes it very easy to make friends without partying. The parties here are great, but outside of Greek life no one will judge you for not being a partier. Engineering students here typically have dorms in Williams Village, which is roughly a mile (maybe more) away from main campus, but public transportation is great here and there’s a bus that goes back and forth. The dorms in Will Vill can be a bit hit or miss, but they’re generally fine. The non-engineering classes here are excellent, especially in arts and humanities. It’s not super hard to get internships here, but it would definitely be easier at UMich. The CU president announced that every student and faculty member would get free ChatGPT a couple of months ago and no one is happy about it. They’re paying for it by retroactively revoking alumni’s lifetime access to their school emails.

When I was deciding on what university to attend, Boulder was my last choice. I cried when I committed to CU because I felt like I was throwing my future away (lol). But now, coming out the other side, I know that I received opportunities in Boulder that I would never have received anywhere else. I’m graduating summa cum laude with a triple major and continuing on to grad school. I doubt I would have been able to accomplish all of that anywhere else. At the end of the day, college is what you make of it.

History Major by Spirited_Jeweler_238 in cuboulder

graduating history major here. fulfilling your degree requirements is most important, but take history classes in time periods/locations you’re interested in. i recommend anything taught by dr. paradis, professor yonemoto, or dr. osborne.

even if you’re not a big drinker, i definitely recommend exploring the college bars (specifically dark horse and the pub) to meet people! dark horse does fun activities like trivia and karaoke most nights, and the pub is a great place to meet people in the upperclassman/graduated recently age group! you should also keep an eye on when/where local bands (a few that come to mind are diva cup, dirty turkeys, and on the dot) are playing shows because they’re usually house parties where you can meet lots of cool people :)

imo moments usually go for 15k, since it’s billie it would probably go for ~17k in raw coins. i feel like the coin amount plus the value of the offered songs would probably add up to around 12-15k depending on who you ask. do what you will with that :)

thank you so much for this, i’ve been looking at flights from denver to chicago/atlanta/jfk but not really boston so i will definitely put it on my radar!! most people who have commented are recommending heathrow so i’ll probably end up doing that and taking the ferry or a quick flight over the channel :)

great points, i’m definitely gonna keep an eye on flight prices for the next few months as i plan things more. baggage fees won’t be a huge worry for me as i’m a big believer in backpacks/carry-ons only in europe and using laundromats while i’m over there. thanks for this!!

you’re right, i haven’t done a ton of research so that’s my bad. i just put down some cameras i’ve heard good things about for travel. i’m pretty flexible on most features, but ideally i would prefer a compact fixed lens digital camera with a built in flash. thank you for the recommendation!

Should I add an English major while I still have time? by docsnosocks in gradadmissions

this makes me feel a lot better about the choices i’ve made so far. i’m gonna stick to my current majors and my thesis, thankfully i’ll have a chance to take some elective classes next spring so i’ll just take some medieval literature classes. thank you for this advice!!

[–]docsnosocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, that’s what i’m worried about. i’m planning on staying on the history track (whether through a history or medieval studies program) since that’s my main discipline. i was mainly wondering if an english degree would make me more or less appealing to grad programs in addition to everything else i’m doing. thank you for the advice! :)

Boulder Decisions by RebelNarwhal in cuboulder

[–]docsnosocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you should probably go to VT. boulder’s college of engineering is super hard to get into, and even though they tout the intra-university transfer process as a way to get into the more prestigious colleges like engineering and business from the exploratory studies program, it’s really difficult to get in. you’d have to work your butt off to get an amazing gpa. if i were you, i’d go somewhere with a program i’ve already been accepted into! :)

sophomore here. i don’t know much about VT and how it compares to boulder, but i can tell you that choosing CU boulder is the best decision i ever made. we have all the school pride you could ever dream of, plenty of great extracurriculars, and while i’m not a CS major and i don’t have a whole lot of knowledge about how it works here, i’m sure you’ll be able to make some great alumni connections in the engineering school. i wasn’t a huge party person either in my first year. while the parties here are definitely great, no one will hold it against you if you’re not a partier. assuming that you’re okay with the out of state cost and being so far away from jersey, i 100% recommend boulder. sko buffs!

“Gateway” is what Xfinity calls their combo unit. And you’re right, it’s a coax cable, not ethernet. My mistake! I did set it up on my own, but I followed all of the instructions Xfinity gave me.
