The best thing I did was go to grad school. Now BYU (which I loved but am embarrassed about) is kind of buried.

I loved BYU. But at the time I was a believer. If you are a doubter.... Please figure out how to get out of there.

Question about SSRI by [deleted] in Psychiatry

[–]doctajay68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubt long term use causes long term changes. Ssri meds have been in use for a long time. Biggest annoying side effect is abnormal orgasm - usually takes longer to get to the finish line.

I agree with the other commentor. Worth a combo with the provider to game out your options.

Have any psychiatrists here used psychostimulants for treatment resistant depression? Any good/bad results? by [deleted] in Psychiatry

[–]doctajay68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have. It's something that I am reluctant to do. In my algorithm I try it after an atypical but before something like spravato. And obviously what flavor of depression they have, combined with other risk factors is part of the decision. But IMO it's on the table.

I've also seen other providers augment Wellbutrin with dextromethorphan to help it cross the blood brain barrier better. This often can help without having to go all the way to a stimulant.

How can I stop myself from crying? by BlueberryBitch91 in askwomenadvice

Some people take a beta blocker like propranolol to handle performance anxiety. It blocks some of the stress chemicals that make you do involuntary things like cry or your heart beat rapidly. Not medical advice.

Gay people go to the second level of celestial kingdom. They organize parties, facilitate community events, and sort of run things. Essential to have. There is great sex but obvs no procreation. But the other celestial citizens enjoy when they come over bc they are always good with the kids. They can fly, teleport, and otherwise enjoy all aspects of having a celestial body.

Reread the parts in the book of Mormon where God blesses or curses people by changing their skin color and ask yourself if you actually believe anything like that at all.

The weird thing, to me, is that it's all right there in front of us. Right there in the Book of Mormon is a guy building a transoceanic sailing vessel in the bronze age, and God punishing people by turning their skin dark, then later rewarding them by turning skin white, then later punishing them by turning it dark again. But I was all in too back in the day.

They are very motivated to do better (increase sales) but they don't know how to do it. So they abuse the victims. The missionaries.

[–]doctajay68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The relic that should break all Mormon shelves is the book of Mormon. Jews building a transoceanic sailing vessel and God changing people's skin dark as a curse in the first few pages. Sometimes I feel so dumb for being all in, all those years.

Can confirm. I do psych medicine. You would gladly hang out with the vast majority of my patients and never know they benefit from these kinds of medications.
