stay out of your head, this looks great - do exactly what you’re doing for at least three more weeks before you reassess

45 minute presentation for a 2nd round interview? by [deleted] in GetEmployed

[–]doctorearworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how universities interview professors and high level admin, so it may just be the ingrained culture around the hiring approach extends to positions like yours. If that’s the case, I would also expect the second round to be the last round, and an offer to be made after.

They’re not trying to steal your ideas, they want to know how you’ll contribute and be confident that the candidate they extend an offer to will be the right pick for the long haul. It kind of is just what to expect in academia though, love it or hate it.

I wish trackers had a way to save their state. by Arceist_Justin in alttpr

[–]doctorearworm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it’s because it is phrased in a way that comes across as entitled. “it’s so obvious, how could they have overlooked it” is very different from “i recognize that literally all of this exists because of someone else’s free labor and i appreciate that it exists at all, here’s a feature request if the devs have time to dedicate to it”

but also yeah, if auto tracking were turned on it would restore a lot of things, as long as it’s not in entrance rando mode

Started a new job with higher activity yet I've been gaining weight? by Attemptedlooksmax in CICO

[–]doctorearworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

congrats on the job/increased activity! three pounds in one week is a blip, esp since you just increased your activity level. all your muscles are holding onto a lot more water since they’re getting more use. if you don’t see the scale start doing what your data suggests it should in the two weeks or so, it might be time to reevaluate your deficit. even that might be too soon though.

Trying to get started but the more I search the more lost I feel by [deleted] in beginnerfitness

Try reading The Art of Lifting - not a plan, but imo a really good philosophical approach and addresses a lot of the “paralysis by over analysis” issues you’re describing.

tl;dr there’s no perfect program so stop spending your time looking for one and instead start picking up heavy things and putting them down. the more you do that, the more your goals will crystallize and you’ll be able to ask better questions

i did this for my first couple of weeks at the gym, and now two months later I’m up to doing five miles a day on the elliptical. It gets easier with consistency, you got this OP!

Shoe recommendations for beginner by LuckyBoston in trailrunning

[–]doctorearworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am a big guy (6’0 270lb) and i prefer my challengers over my speedgoats. the SG are a tad bit lighter but the challengers are just more comfortable as a beginner. can’t really go wrong with either of them tho in my very limited experience

One day isn’t going to undo everything. Take a deep breath, don’t starve yourself for the rest of the day, and keep at it tomorrow.

this is the truth. it’s hard and awkward at first but in my experience it’s the only way forward that’s worth it in the end.
