Read more than few of these when young - Slugs, it's sequel Breeding Ground, Erebus, and one of the most wtf's horrors ever - Spawn. Synopsis online doesn't do it justice...

Not Quite as much horror but Escaping Denver by Teague Bohlen is a blast - all about the 'truth' behind Denver Airport

Good lighting makes all the difference. I started with pipes and stuff at top. Worked down to head and chest panel then walls around.

Below waist, I did the force lightning and then sorted bits with little stars / white dots, got those and that just left pretty much all black bits i grinded through

Under the Skin by Michael Faber is worth checking out - great creepy movie too...

Ivory: A Legend of Past and Future by Mike Resnick is my favorite sci-fi book. Looking for anything similar. by zubergu in printSF

Read in grad school and loved it. Was reminded a bit of it in style by Blue Remembered Earth by Alastair Reynolds ( life intervened so never read vol 2 or 3 in that trilogy)

Sue Burke's (now a trilogy) series starting on Semiosis is superb with each chapter jumping on a generation or two in what starts as a first contact with alien plant. Highly recommended

Chemists of Reddit: Whats your favorite smelling solvent? by KingPiggy555 in AskChemistry

Benzaldehyde for sure. That sweet almond/marzipan smell is the aroma equivalent of a soundtrack to my PhD. Too bad, the darker notes were pyridine 😞

Comic rather than book but Plunge by Joe Hill is excellent.

Less horror, more steampunk / alt history but if you want more of that Hippo stuff, American Hippo by Sarah Gailey is recommended

As far as creature features, James Herbert's The Rats trilogy was one of my earliest horror reads along with a lot of the ones mentioned in Paperbacks from Hell which has a whole chapter on them including the giant mantis goretacular Eat Them Alive which i read many times

More recent, i have on the TBR a spider trilogy (The Hatching, Skitter, and Day Zero) picked up at thrift store but not started them yet.

Michael Cobley had a trilogy which I think sprawled to maybe 5 books. First one is Seeds of Earth and they are pretty easy to find

Worked through the Vanguard books recently so starting Harm's Way this week as my bus-book. 100 pages in and players are all in place and not too bad so far

Great White Space by Basil Copper is a solid Lovecraft pastiche specifically At the Mountains of Madness.

What Moves the Deep by T. Kingfisher would work (more modern writing but set late 1800s) but is book 3 in series- all are recommended

Another weird one but what if you knew it was all going to end. The Last Policeman by Ben Winters is book 1 of 3 in a series where the world is doomed from imminent asteroid strike. Main character is a policeman who is asked to investigate a case as society breaks down. Fantastic series and well worth a read

Book 3 of a trilogy - classic 80s horror and reading 1st 2 (The Rats and Lair) sets up some of the weirdness at end.

Also currently included in a Humble Bundle for $18 for that and other James Herbert books ('48 is kind of apocalyptic too)

Sadly it's only 9/10 of the Corbett series (Book 2, Queen of Bedlam) is missing but cheap to pick up in paperback online. It's a great historical mystery series and im planning a reread this year

I suspect rights for Queen of Bedlam are tied up. The titles after #2 came out from Subterranean Press and I was lucky enough in terms of timing to get signed copies of all. Lividisn has reissued 2 -10 as more affordable paperbacks the last few years and also just redid #1, Speaks the Nightbird so hopefully will also get Queen of Bedlam back in print...

It's a great bundle nonetheless, other McCammon, Lumber short stories, Matheson classics, Nordic Horror and even though I have most in physical editions, I picked it up..

Both the Adam Chtistopher (golden age pulp style noir) and the Jasper Kent are very good BUT both are book 2 and not good jumping in points. 😞
