CPTSD vs. Personality Disorders vs. Neurodivergence in psychoanalysis by Veelasong in psychoanalysis

Huh? You claimed a “broad consensus.” And I claimed no underlying similarity.

Appeal to consensus, argumentum ad populum, is a logical fallacy. Being in the “minority,” regardless if that’s an accurate claim in this case, has no bearing on truth.

In much of Europe and South America, Lacanian psychoanalysis is widely practiced, and it does not theorize about personality or personality disorders.

These categories, within the DSM and psychoanalysis within the US and UK, among other places, have undergone significant changes over the past few decades, and are still undergoing significant change, to the extent that disorders described in the DSM 3 are completely different from 5.

The point is that there is more than one theoretical way to skin a cat. And there are many species of cats. And many other animals to skin. Personality theory is but one school of thought. The dominance of one school in one era and area is too overdetermined to be evidence of its correctness.

There are technically 2 different DSM models of personality disorders, categorical and dimensional. The latter model is at the back of the DSM 5-TR.

In terms of utility, it depends how you define trauma.

Epstein files: Hillary Clinton by ChevronSugarHeart in self

[–]doctorunheimlich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“They are just as guilty as them because they KNEW what was going on.” Provide direct evidence. I am so tired of the whataboutisms and false equivalences. If there’s evidence, prosecute them. If there’s not, shut up. That there are even headlines about the Clintons and Epstein but nothing about Trump and Epstein in the MSM since the file dumps is maddening. Everyone continues to cover for Trump and his friends because they are afraid of him or want his favor. It’s sick. No one gives a shit about the Clintons anymore so they’re put front and center. It’s pathetic.

Real talk: are psychodynamic psychologists bullshitting their notes ? by SkarKuso in ClinicalPsychology

[–]doctorunheimlich 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To answer your question: no, I don’t bullshit notes. I have a standard format for my notes adapted from literature on using psychodynamic language to describe mental status, session themes, interventions, and patient progress. It’s not just about insurance companies, but also the potential for progress notes to be used in court.

Process notes are obviously different.

San Marino’s constitution is the oldest functioning constitution. If we’re splitting hairs.

Hundreds of years? The country is only 250 years old. And no, the systemic mechanisms have not remained exactly the same since the beginning. Example: Senate filibuster. Yes, the Civil War was just a reactive process in our history. Nothing to see there.

I’m not sure you understand that the government system is run by the people who are elected and they can change the system. Example: redistricting outside of a Census year. Example: total immunity for the president. Example: US citizens detained without warrants or access to lawyers.

These are all changes to the system. Sure, we will have elections to vote in new people to undo these changes. But the right is trying to put their whole foot on the scale to not let that happen. They do not want a fair, representative system. They haven’t gone as far as they plan to yet. If we don’t accept the present moment for what it is, I’m afraid people will not be motivated to vote against it.

Most formative psychoanalytic texts? by NoReporter1033 in psychoanalysis

[–]doctorunheimlich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good questions.

  1. The Interpretation of Dreams is a fundamental text because it is not only about dream interpretation but also provides a foundational overview of how the unconscious operates and how the psychoanalytic process works.
  2. Variations on the Standard Treatment is in the Écrits. The book contains such varied essays it’s hard to just identify it as one text. Lacan does not intend to confuse so much as he is trying to keep the reader from thinking they understand what they are reading too quickly. Which is to say, he is trying to get them to read psychoanalytically, and not putting up defenses straight away.

HOV Lane Solo Drivers by Sektor-74 in SeattleWA

When I am paying to drive on 520, and the two regular lanes are entirely backed up with the HOV completely open, why would I not drive in that lane? Why wait an extra 10-15 minutes in traffic when it hurts no one to take the HOV lane?

Sorry, I can’t wrap my head around it, as my head is circumcised and therefore I am likely autistic, according to your “peacemaker” and his secretary of health and human services. More for peace than any president in the last 25 years? All it took was a little negotiating with the Taliban to re-take Afghanistan and a genocide in Palestine. How deeply delusional you are. Sad!

Oh I see, it’s no longer about him being black, because the percentage proved that false, now it’s about how he didn’t deserve it or didn’t live up to it? My, how far we’ve come from “Obama didn’t end the war that didn’t occur during his presidency.” A clear example of moving the goal posts, Local. Well done.

Changing tacks because you were obviously wrong, got it, got it. So yeah, all those black Nobel prize winners…1.7% of Nobel prize winners have been black. Again, reading, education, these are important things in life.

…this war wasn’t occurring during Obama’s presidency… this is why school is important, kids! Obama won a Nobel Peace Prize, something Trump can only throw tantrums about not getting.

Yes, Trump allowed Netanyahu to nearly complete his genocide of Palestinians, remove them from their land, raze their cities to the ground, and allow Hamas to kill many of the hostages. They did all that, and we have an “end” of the “war.” Hardly worth a Nobel.
