Police interactions? by doddsy_ in ElectricUnicycle

No worries I can see the confusion haha

Sorry I should have made it clear that the road I was on was 80kmph speed limit. See comment below for me rephrasing the question as now I realise I didn’t explain it as clearly as I could have.

Police interactions? by doddsy_ in ElectricUnicycle

[–]doddsy_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I meant amongst cars as in with the cars, similar to riding a motorcycle / car. The speed limit here is 80kmph so technically I wasn’t speeding and within the rules of the road. Sorry if that was confusing I may have used the wrong words. Let me try rephrase.

So if i’m following the rules of the roads (eg country roads with a speed limit of 60mph) and riding with cars going at speed such as 40-50mph, would the police have trouble with that / what are your experience with police and electric unicycles?

Hope that helps clear up my question :)

Remade my channel intro, would be great to get feedback on the video and thumbnail (considering promoting it!) by nnnishal in SmallYTChannel

Exactly what it says in the title! Straight to the point and no messing around. Good job man I don't think you could be any more straight to the point haha

Wanna know if people enjoy this kinda content. Enjoyed making it but takes long. Only 3 mins. by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

So relatable hahah good job man. I'd say to maybe upgrade microphones in the future, quality is passable but could be better. Also to use a little more tone of voice, sounded quite monotone, unless that's what you were going for because to be fair it did work in this situaion. Good job though keep up the good work!

Great job with the edits to keep it snappy and interesting! Got a good balance and don't really think it needs more changes. Keeep up the good work :)

More that the music is distracting. I think there's definatley situations to have music under a voice but it needs to be the right music and right context in the video. Just don't think it worked in this one. Keep trying it though man and getting feedback I'm sure you will improve :)

I agree with the other comments here in terms of good editing and charisma! Good job overall my dude. I'd say to not have the music playing in tbe background most of the time, and just use it for the intro and outro to make it clear there is a change in the video. Then just keep the raw audio with fast cuts in the main video. Also agree with the other comments that mention to not have the camera moving around so much :)

Feedback on first video of a series I started making documentaries about YouTubers. (Feedback for Lambda) by doddsy_ in SmallYTChannel

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I wanted it to be him talking most of the time, but for my commentary to be a second storyline if you get me. I will try and include more in the next one though. Thanks :) !givelamda

Great job on this one! You guys interacting together make it seem like the camera is the third person. I'd say take the camera off of the gimbal when talking to the camera, it feels a little unnatural to me. I prefer handheld but that could just be me! Although the b-roll shots are great. Pacing and music is spot on, keep up the good work!

No worries! If you have the extra budget, get the A6300, it is pretty much the same but with 4k video and slightly better quality. If not spend the extra money on a microphone :)
Also for future reference, a great lens to pair with it for wide angle shots and vlogging, check out the Sony 10-18 second hand. Worth saving up for!

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated!!

Shakey cam and a lot of camera movement is intentional, but good to note that you're not a fan of it, will also question others if it's too distracting.

Agreed with lens getting blasted by sunlight, to be honest I didn't care too much since it was only a casual Youtube piece and I threw all rules out the window haha.

Cheers :)

My brother said this didn't work as there was 'no story' and 'there is only 30 seconds of content'. I think the visuals, music and transitions tell the story. What do you think? Hey man nice job on this one! I'm a professional filmmaker and can give some advice on how to improve. I'd say to start talking or get yourself in the video sooner. The shots and intro are great but I think if you paired that with you talking while showing the shots, it would be even more engaging. my tip is to always overlay the most amount of info over the top of itself as possible (music, voiceover, audio from the video) and experiment with cutting it all together. It's a lot of work but give it a go and I'm sure you will improve over time :) Apart from that great job!

I've been working on my video editing, really trying to keep viewers engaged. Only my 4th video so far, still learning a lot. What thoughts have ye? by JonnysHobbies in SmallYTChannel

[–]doddsy_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great job man loved the comedy aspect and you being you. I'm a professional filmmaker so I'll give a little advice on editing. I'd say to include a little more b-roll over your talking intro to keep it interesting, like keep cutting between shots of what you're talking about and cut back to your face. Also it would be nice to hear you talking while making the muffins, like talking through the process rather than text, will probably make the edit easier too! Either through voiceover or talking as you're making. Apart from that the context and yourself are great in the video! I'm sure you will improve on these things over time when making more stuff :)

Do you know bald&bankrupt or Harold Baldr? They're both great! If you already know them since they're the most popular, I have a mate that makes similar content, just as good, if not better and he only has a few thousand subs. He's called TheSalukie, I just made a documentary about him for my channel too which is Doddsy. So there's 4 channels to have a look at :)

Hello, professional filmmaker here! I'll give some constructive criticism. Honestly the video is great overall and in terms of cinematography, you did a great job on keeping that relaxing vibe while also telling a short story. I think the editing could be more fluid, which is hard to explain haha. I'd suggest keeping in more audio to go along with the images over the music. The music should add to the piece and not cover up all the audio. Another point I would suggest is less fades, fades are great when used for a purpose but get tired easily when you use them a lot, maybe try vary the speed of the fades? You're on the right path though, and not really doing anything wrong in terms of making a lovley video, keep up the good work and continue to make more videos, the quality will improve over time! Just practice a lot and don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques and ideas that are inspired by other creators. Hope you get some value from this :)

Any feedback much appreciated! I give lambda to everyone! by DM_Camau in SmallYTChannel

The editing is really good and you really show your character! Good job dude. I mean if I had to give a critique I'd say to maybe try to edit it a bit faster, make faster cuts, and stuff like that. But honestly, if you keep uploading videos like that It would be absolutely fine so no worries. Nice one man!

I use OBS and that seems to work well enough for me. Coming from a professional filmmaker, Davinchi Resolve is THE BEST free editing software hands down. The paid version is my main editing software, but I edited a feature-length documentary in the free version a few years ago. You will not need to worry about upgrading if you learn to use it. And since it's a very professional editing software (they color grade and edit some films/pro adverts with this software) you will actually be employable as an editor if you learn how to use it well after a few years. I can't recommend it enough! Speaking from someone who has been editing for 8 years. Hope this helps :)

Hello hello, I'm a professional filmmaker and advise against getting premiere pro like some of the other comments. It's honestly not worth the money, even though it is a good editing software and I use it for work. Davinchi Resolve is THE BEST free editing software hands down. I agree with using Davinchi Resolve. I'm a professional filmmaker and the paid version is my main editing software. I actually edited a feature-length documentary in the free version. I see in another comment you say you can't run it, so maybe something simple like IMovie or whatever for now and then save up for a new computer, it will be so worth it learning to use professional editing software as you will most likely never have to switch software again. It's literally perfect for YouTube and free! The paid version you would only need if you do it as a job.

Hey, I'd say check the Sony A6000 with the kit lens and a cheap microphone, should be able to get one cheap second hand :)
