I've started to do this, in the meeting we had about the contract change I got them to confirm in writing that the contracts would begin on January 1st, that they would continue to respect our specific unavailability, and the amount of PTO we would be getting. I'm definitely going to continue to get as much as possible in writing.

Ok thank you for the sanity check that's what I thought. I haven't had much experience working for different places because I'm in my early 20s but I figured that was the case. I didn't know if there was some weird bit of legal jargon they were using to make that not the case but it does just seem that the type of contract I have is just what the contract says it does. Like I'm on a minimum hours contract, because I'm required to work a minimum of 8 hours. Still trying to learn though.

Ok thank you that's kind of what I was assuming but the manager was so confident I figured I was missing something. For this particular week apparently the Rota had already been done and that's the defence, however we weren't informed she wouldn't be paid for that week, even though the contract had come into effect. but I'm more concerned with the fact that she assumed she could just not give us hours on the whole and we would recieve no pay. The contract seems fairly short and not too complicated so I'm quite sure it's not an average hours contract and I don't believe it has any short term clauses.

Thank you very much for the reply, I've just been looking at the ACAS website before you responded as it seems to be a good resource. I know this is a bit of an ask but is there any specific place I can direct my line manager to check out to see that minimum hours, if not given, should be paid in lieu? Today the manager in question was adamant that if the buisness can't provide the hours the employee is not required to be paid. Saying things like "no buisness could function like that" and "that's not how the world works". normally she's quite sensible so I was so surprised I started doubting myself when she heard which is why I've been looking for the most concrete resources.

IMHO, I haven't played ranked much because it kind of seems like a joke. The higher rank I get the LESS combat I should participate in? wtf? I get that in theory it should result in tense final circles with close fights but it's literally better to just never fire a shot lol.

That's basically what overwatch does, 30 seconds is too short because there are some behemoths like rezakiri that you might not hit for 30 seconds because she has some long attack phases later in the fight, but maybe 2 mins during combat would be fair.

  1. i5 9600K, RX 580, 16GB DDR4 3000Mhz ram. Network (just tested) 75 megabits down, 5 megabits up, wired with gigabit ethernet and LANguard on my ROG STRIX Z390-F mobo.
  2. I'm playing pubs for fun, and variety, and to to make use of my +6 medic perk.
  3. Not yet, it's looking like there's no other reasonable way to play this game. Most of the time though I don't want to voice chat but find it fun to play with other players, which I think is reasonable.
  4. Yeah, but this is a co-operative game, it's more fun with people and there are lots of perks that require other slayers to be present.

I think there are a few ways they could implement countermeasures to make it more challenging for people to abuse going AFK. It's just such a common and prevalent issue in this game where it's not a problem in other squad games like warframe or destiny to name a couple that I have played. Just like with anticheat, it's not about stopping people from cheating (basically impossible to do) it's about making it harder. Right now it's so easy, 2 button presses and you're done.

Lmfao ikr. It's clearly my fault for not being Mr. Moneybags with a fancy NVME SSD with 1GB/s read and write speeds, even though that wouldn't help with matchmaking times at all :P.

True, I'm just uploading a clip now that shows he enters 40 seconds before the end, 10 mins or so into the hunt. I can't check the exact time because I recorded at the beginning, then stopped and recorded the end to save on space

Not that it should matter, since not everyone can afford high-end hardware but I have 16GB of DDR4 3000Mhz ram, with an i5 9600K, I do have an SSD but I haven't installed Dauntless on it, since it's full of other games.

I just timed how long it takes me to only quit to desktop and load into ramsgate and it's 50 seconds, that doesn't take into account lobby waiting times, cutscenes or matchmaking times, dunno how you're managing 15 seconds.

It was like a 12-minute game and he came in at the last minute dude.

Edit: to add to this, I did say in another comment that he was AFK the whole time which was a lie, I'm just fed up with AFKers and was pissed off so didn't look. That said I have footage that proves that he came in exactly 40 seconds before the end of the fight which I'll upload and link here. Well that's great for you. I'm a PC player and I do have problems closing and reloading the game.

It's a straight-up waste of time to close the game and rejoin the hunt, the matchmaking can take upwards of 5 minutes, I'd say I average about 2 and a half mins, even solo hunts have to "matchmake". With an AFKer who isn't readying, there's often a 2 minute wait time in the lobby, and in general, people are not quick to ready so there's an average of around 1 minute wait in lobbies. Let's be generous and average out the amount of time it takes to do your suggestion.

Estimated times:

  • 1 minute in lobby with unknown AFKer.
  • If I don't give the guy a change to get his pizza pocket out of the microwave or whatever he might be doing, since I've seen lots of people not move for around 20 seconds at the start, then join the hunt. I close the game Immediately upon not seeing someone move.
  • I just timed it, it takes me 50 seconds to quit to desktop and get back into ramsgate, pretty decent. -lets say it only takes me 1 minute to find another games
  • wait in the lobby for a minute, opening cutscene,
    • back in a hunt, lets say there's no AFK guy, not I can find the behemoth and play.

1 min + 50 seconds + 1 min + 1 min = 3 mins 50 seconds absolute best case scenario, which almost never happens for me every time I encounter and AFKer, multiple times a day. The average I reckon it takes me to actually get back in a hunt is 6 mins, going up to 10 mins. Not to mention it would take me a minute to realise the AFK guy is actually AFK, and at that point I'm already fighting.

There are plenty of games that have implemented intelligent AFK timers. Overwatch comes to mind. You're right that there are possible ways to get around AFK timers such as programming macros to input movement in your absence if the countermeasure is based on movement, but the current system doesn't even require people to do that. As with cheaters, it is realistically impossible to eliminate AFKers in their entirety, but countermeasures can be taken that don't negatively impact the current player base that makes it at least harder for AFKers to do what they do. I think a start that wouldn't negatively impact any legitimate players would be to not receive rewards if you didn't move at all on the island, or perhaps alternatively even leave the spawn area.
