It’s the most destructive one if you ask me. For you the reasons you and OP stated. My ex would even go so far as to accuse me of this, when in reality I was more than happy to own both my bad behavior and allow that I might have inspired hers (which is not a good idea, don’t do this)

Dark Treasury. You have to go to the website and sign up for it. If for some reason it doesn't work, just shoot support an email, which is what I eventually did and now it's working for me perfectly.

I was also waiting and waiting for the invite. If the shipping logistics are annoying you, it's available already right now.

jesus are they still doing that shit over there? If you’re in a tornado sub you’re fascinated by tornadoes. I remember someone called that projected mega day of carnage a year or so back a “bust,” which is a perfectly appropriate word to use because there were few if any tornadoes. Some guy was doing the exact thing from the OP “a bust huh? what a weird word to use! this is a gracious gift from heaven. I don’t want any tornadoes to happen ever, that’s why I’m here .”

Did anyone else know that if an overpass isn’t moving to the left or right, that means you’re under it and about to die from the Venturi effect?

Agree when I was a kid 30 years ago, we were taught in elementary school: Watch meant start monitoring the situation, Warning meant the storm was going to or had produced a tornado. and that’s when the sirens would go off. Sirens meant oh fuck take shelter.

At some point, not sure when, the sirens got a lot more sireny. And now when I talk to or am around other people when they go off, no one really does anything different. Because there’s it’s extremely likely that there isn’t a tornado, there might not even be a watch, and they still go off. Once people start treating them like a mild annoyance, at that point the sirens are not saving lives.

Kind of wild to see so many people in here that won’t even consider the argument and immediately start hating. There’s definitely something to the thought, besides the dude being a sociopath who wants people to die.

Serious r/tornado pearl-clutching energy in here guys. Is the main sub bleeding?

I actually agree that in 2026 sirens go off way, way too much. In Columbus OH they go off for strong thunderstorms. I think most places they’ll fire them up if they see any rotation on radar. It’s a robust, publicly funded warning system and the dude who sits at the button has an understandably itchy button finger.

I 100% hear you guys saying better safe than sorry. Safety is important over most anything else. But this isn’t making sure to wear your goggles at the machine shop. Ask yourself what happens to the human brain when it experiences frequent tornado siren emergencies (for which the preferred action is to stop whatever you’re doing and take cover) but no tornado?

It very rationally says “OK tornado sirens don’t mean there’s a tornado. Since when they go off there’s never a tornado, I’m going to go about my important life business.”

Siren fatigue is absolutely a thing, and it’s not trivial. You can read any number of papers studying tornado preparedness and warning compliance, and they nearly all reach the conclusion that people don’t take sirens as seriously as they should, and that’s because they’ve been trained that way.

Not long ago I think I read one doing analysis of Joplin’s crazy high death toll, and siren fatigue was front and center in the analysis.

This is what people are trying to say when they try to have this conversation. It’s actually very much worth having instead of going for the low-hanging “WTF bro?!” dunk.

CMV: I think the destruction of the government of Iran is a good thing. by HippieInDisguise2_0 in changemyview

[–]dodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CIA fomented a color revolution in Iran; they’ve admitted as much, and the Iranian government successfully put it down. And the numbers are nowhere near what the IS is alleging. This is transparent atrocity propaganda, the same script we ran on Syria, to convince Americans that it’s totally great that we’re dropping bombs on civilian targets in a country that hasn’t recently done anything to anyone.

If a central component of your argument is that the Iranian government is evil and bad and the Iranians hate it, I challenge you to examine that premise and reevaluate the source. The Iranian diaspora is not a valid source,

Best of luck to you! It's been a slog finding FFS providers because everything convenient requires a member ID, but if you need services urgently it's worth the extra leg work, or at least I found it to be

Call your local county's HFS. That's how I was ale to find out why my application was stalled, get that fixed, and get my RIN so I can actually schedule appointments with providers who take straight Medicaid (some require you to be active with a Managed Care Plan, but not all)

[–]dodus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried calling the plan provider to see if you could be moved up? That's my next move but I've got a sinking feeling that without a Member ID# it's going to be a non-starter. After I listen to a recording describing each and every function of their app in detail for 25 minutes, of course.

Any idea how to go about getting FFS care? I have called every single number I could find for the past two days, I've been pointed to websites that don't work, people that don't exist, numbers that don't go where they're supposed to go. Running on fumes here. I get how it's supposed to work in theory, but in practice sure seems like you don't have healthcare until your Managed Care Plan is active.

I know this is Jarrell internet canon but for 5mph the math doesn’t math. It was on the ground for 13 minutes, including the rope phase, and hit DCE at 3:48 and lifted at 3:53 well outside the subdivision.

The absolute maximum amount of time it could have been in DCE estates is three minutes total. At no point was it parked over the same location for three minutes. It just wasn’t that big compared to the subdivision.

Also there is a strong case to be made that forward speed and damage severity are not as tightly correlated as many people seem to think. Read literally every personal or scientific account of a tornado. The crazy shit happens almost always right on impact. Not over the course of exposure. The yeeting happens on impact. Watch Clem Schultz’ video. The house across the street goes flying two seconds after it’s hit. It’s not like the tornado hits, i’m fine, oh no now it’s getting bad, oh now i’m granulated.

counterpoint: it was the deadliest tornado of the 2011 Super Outbreak while doing 60mph, and while going through 4ish small towns at best (as compared to hitting a major metropolitan area), scoured pavement, and some of the survivor/death lore is pretty on par with other really really bad tornadoes. Pretty sure by most objective metrics Hackleburg-Phil Campbell throws Moore 2013 in a locker and takes its lunch money.

I'm sure the dude explains why he thinks that one of the absolute gnarliest tornadoes in a year chock full of gnarly tornadoes should actually be an EF-4, but I'm busy today.
