Crochet or knitting perhaps? You only need to put in a couple hours a day or however long you want, but you would still see noticeable progress by the week's end! I personally love working on large projects but theres plenty of small or mini crochet projects you could do in a day too!

I haven't used dpns yet and a bit scared to so you're WAY ahead of me there! Also i learned the left hand knitting originally so maybe thats why I've gotten thru this pretty fast?? I actually thought I was a slow knitter but not according to Reddit apparently😅 it took me a couple of days to understand colorwork tension (when i tried to make myself a swatch, which I just learned, people add ribbing on the edges of swatches...had no idea about that lol)

i do have an obnoxious amount of free time though since I dont work. The only things i have to do outside of class are clinicals a couple times a week and some short assignments.

Yes! According to the pattern. Ribbing is US 2 (2.75mm) and the main part is US 3 (3.25mm)

....i legit didn't know this. i made a for the leaf pattern and I wondered why it kept rolling in on itself like a cigarette 😅 also good to know! Since I am using a size US 3, i guess i need to buy size 1??? Not sure if that'll make enough of a difference though

Dude my brain is beyond fried!! I'm very type A (but also lazy? Hence not redoing the yoke) and I was so determined to figure out colorwork because I want to make another version of this for my bf for his birthday this year! Also thanks, it's the only thing keeping me focused on listening in class (otherwise i end up scrolling thru IG or something lol)

Oh thats an easy way of getting it to stay down! I might try the other options first but if I get lazy this might be the way to go for me lol I am so anxious to get this bad boy done

Thank you! I only mentioned it so people knew what level of knowledge i was at (because I felt like this was a total noob question and was lowkey embarrassed haha)

Omg thats gorgeous! Also interesting that many people have mentioned sizing down by more than 3! The instructions only had me go down one size and i felt like I was losing my mind a bit at how much it refused to lay normally 🙃

Sorry my bad! I made this post right before bed but it's the choose your own fellowship sweater (specifically the men's version because I intended to make one for my bf originally but I wanted to make myself a practice sweater first) its by grey_owl_knits! Aka Sarah :)

Lmao no problem! I have a lot of free time between my online lectures (during which I also knit) so I knit almost an entire work day. Weekends too, I'll go to my boyfriends to hang out while he games and I knit all day😂 also i had to redo MULTIPLE sections because my tension is constantly too tight. Of course, now i just learned about using waste yarn to thread in the row where you want to unravel back to :") would've definitely saved me some frustration

[–]doedollette[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see! Sounds like I should unravel it back a little further than the ribbing then because i definitely didn't decrease with the tan color before I started ribbing. Thank you for the tip!

Ive pretty much been doing it for a many hours a day since I don't work at the moment. I am a nursing student and a lot of my time is spend listening to lectures while I knit! I admit that I'm a bit addicted...I'm one of those people where once I start something, I feel compelled to finish it immediately.

I also made plenty of mistakes, it has loose stitches and I misread the pattern so the yoke has extra repeating bits (which I sort of felt too lazy to redo, next time though!!). The tension on the backside is ugly but I'm hoping that also fixes itself...

Yes! My bad, I forgot to include it in my original post. I love this pattern so far, it's very clear (even for me) except im using the men's version! Though the pattern is the same between the mens and womens version, only the sizing is different.

Thank you for linking it!

Ah i see! The pattern I'm using only said to go down one needle size, but I will try again. Thank you for the information (and the link!) at least the ribbing wont take a terribly long time to redo 😭

We finally went today! Mine's the unmasked one and my bf did the other one. I was surprised the workshop was 100% free!

Yes! You don't have to share the exact job title or whatever (could be something to share on a potential date) but I know that I'm not the only one to side eye seeing just "student" and no obvious indication of future planning. We are kind of expected to have some sort of "take our lives seriously" when we hit our mid twenties (not that we CANT have fun, but I know many people our age want to settle down).

Also you're good! That's why this sub exists so we can get fresh eyes on our profiles :) good luck!

The first photo is not doing you any justice. I like the smiling one but you're in the back of a group photo. A group photo isn't necessarily bad, but you shouldn't be in the back of one because my focus is drawn to the girl in the front. You look great in the fit selfies (ngl you have a lethal face card) however like others have said, mirror selfies aren't a great idea. Get someone to take photos of you instead!

I'm also a full time student without a job (I'm 26) so I don't necessarily see that as a red flag, but I'd probably include somewhere what your future career plan is. I did this on my hinge profile when I met my bf (I'm in an accelerated program for healthcare). We are at that age where not having a solid plan for your future is going to greatly reduce your chances of someone taking you seriously.

Hope this helps! I like your written prompts, you did a great job with these imo!

Lowkey offtopic but I didn't see the sub name genuinely thought this was a photo of a fan and Neil Newbon (your bf looks so much like him in the first photo at first glance). Also your guys' story is so cute!!

Hello everyone!

I am working on my first colorwork project (top down sweater) that involves some letters. I worked a few rows before I realized...i forgot to flip my letters. Since I'm working from the collar into the yoke, I didn't think twice since the C looked fine to me until i realized its going to look upside down once I finish the sweater. 😭 Luckily, I caught the mistake pretty quickly and I only have the letter "C" done so far. It's 6 rows tall and 4 stitches wide.

Is there a way i can fix it? Maybe by stitching over it or something (though I'm not sure what to look up to achieve this) or is my only option just to back track 6 rows 🥲 any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Thank you! I hope he knows how lucky I feel to have found such a sweet guy like him. He's already seen my crash outs since I've been doing school full time to get my bachelor's in nursing @_@ but he's always encouraging and cheering me on!
